I have a problem here in my work.
Iam in a work network as you understand and iam an IT.
i want to do something but i don't know how to do it so i need your help

My problem is with the email contacts.
I make a file (.pst) for backup my email contacts for all the company with all the email addresses of the company.
So what i want to do is to put this backup file on the server and from there to update all the computers of the network so not to go to every pc individual and import this backup file.
Is there something i can do or any other way to do this??

Thanks for the help. And iam here for any other questions

You exported the Outlook contacts to a .pst file and now you want to copy it to a server and use a server function to update all of the network's computer to import this file?

There are a few issues here. Because a .pst file contains more than just email addresses, copying it to different computers has the potential to wipe out the users emails, contacts, calendars, and mailbox settings. You need to import the addresses to individual Outlook users. I'm not aware that it can be done. Updates I can do. Importing to a program, I haven't seen that one, but i'll ask my partner who does more server work

Perhaps others will have more luck if they knew a few details.

    OS of the server?
    OS of the workstations?
    Version of outlook?

    Hi

Some initial questions before answers on this as in......

What are you using to manage emails, which version of Exchange Server? if not using Exchange Server to manage Outlook Email service then what you wish to do is near impossble, as I dont think even with a shared netowrk drive and all email account linking to the same .pst that you will get this to work as in all accounts sharing the same address list.

Exchange Server is the way to go.

I did see a way to share contacts on a network drive. The benefit of it is that you can update the list with new employees and contacts and everyone will be updated.

The initial setup still requires you to set the shared list up at each user's computer though. At least once you have done it once you shouldn't need to repeat. You know how users are, they decide to go exploring and delete what they don't recognize!

There are a few articles on it, some are more complete than others. One gives examples of how users could update a common file. For your example, I would only let one person update, everyone else can use the briefcase to acccess it but it isn't automatic -

The best solution is Exchange Server but if you don't have it, here is an article that gives some other solutions - http://www.slipstick.com/addins/groupcontacts.asp

There are articles in that site for using Access to build the database for the contacts.

One more decent looking article that I didn't get to read through - http://www.outlookipedia.com/Outlook/share-outlook-calendar.aspx
