Trying to help someone save an HP Pavilion a305w. The plastic power switch broke and they think something fried too, but we can't seem to find the switch now. If someone can post some pictures or a functional description of an HP power switch, I can put a new one in and continue diagnosing. It had 2 black wires, 1 blue, 1 red, and a yellow LED. Thanks.

Apparently HP released the a305w with two different motherboard types: an Asus board and a TriGem board. If you could supply the first 3 digits of the serial number, I can proceed with finding out the info you need. Also, what color is the motherboard? Green is (probably) TriGem and brownish-tan is (probably) Asus; the best way is to get the first 3 digits of the serial number. Also- the Asus board has the power supply connector parallel and right next to the memory slots, and the TriGem power connector is more or less in the center of the motherboard, near the 1st PCI slot.

Thanks for your help. MXK serial number, brown/gold board, 20-pin power between ram and IDE's, and addl. 4-pin on far side of the northbridge. Must be the Asus?

The Asus web site doesn't list your MB 'cuz it was made by Asus exclusively for HP. The Asus equivilant model is P4BGL-MX/533. Same chipset, same layout, same general specs, etc. I think that some of the Asus servers are down at this particular time (11.36 am Pacific Time) because when I try to download the manual for this MB I get 'Page cannot be displayed' errors regardless of which mirror I choose (Global, USA, Europe, etc). Anyway- you now have the model number. Look it up at Asus, and download the manual. It will show the header pin-out for the LED's and the power button. I'll keep trying to download the manual and I'll post any relevant info if I get some.
