I am at a loss to fix my computer. Somehow I got a virus that warns me about my computer being at risk, then tries to go to a url called gomyron.com to load up Drivecleaner 2006. But it's bogus. The latest Spybot is blocking the unload now, but my computer is running VERY slow.

How can I get this thing off my computer?!

P.S.-I've ccleaner'd it, removed excess programs, and defragmented it already.

    I've attached the HJT logfile.

Thank you, sorry for posting the HJT file, I just read I'm not supposed to do that!

My computer is running so slow that I'm downloading all the instructions and helpful programs at work so I can do only what is necessary at home.

FYI- gomyron is part of DriveCleaner 2006. I was able to take some steps to eliminate it, but it's still there. Another site, Securepccleaner.com, came up.

I will be able to post more information tonight.

Thank you for helping me out on this nightmare!

    Abri,

I went through the whole procedure last night and have attached the log files. No infected warning pop-ups or Google redirects yet (my crack team of users is testing and checking, a.k.a., my wife and kids).

The system is still running VERY slow, with explore.exe eating up all the SPU useage as shown in task manager.

This exercise has given me some hope that I can fix this problem, thanks to you guys. Please let me know what I need to do next.

    I'm geeked!

    Dean

    Hi klepac,
Please continue with the following instructions:

    1) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    SpyHunter

    2) Reboot after uninstalling the above.

    3) Install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    4) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

    5) Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {327C2873-E90D-4c37-AA9D-10AC9BABA46C} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter Security Suite] C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter3.exe

After you click fix, just close hijackthis.

    6) Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    7) Now run CCleaner at the default setting with the Windows tab as the one on top.

    8) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

Let me know how things are running now?

    Abri,

You are geekin' amazing! It's running just like old times!:celebrate

I'll take it out for a spin shortly, but it looks like everything is back to normal.

Please! What can I do next to protect myself? Should I delete any of the programs I loaded? I've seen the free downloads page, do you have any recommendations??

I can't thank you enough for getting me this far!

    Hi klepac!
That's good news. Please do step 8 of my last post. I'll repeat it here below. This will allow me to make sure all the files we tried to get rid of are actually gone. If so, I will then post a final set of cleanup instructions along with a link to How to protect yourself from malware.

    8) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

    Hi klepac,
That looks good! Please do the final cleanup which will remove the tools and logs we had you put on your computer and you'll be asked to get rid of all your previous restore points and set a new one.

    Abri,

I did the last steps and everything looks great. Used it for a while and everything is back to normal and running fine:)

I am reveiwing the 'How to Prtect yourself from Malware' link and doing the finer pionts this weekend.

If you have any personal preferences on any of the software I would value your input.

I can't thank you and Majorgeeks.com enough for helping me out! I'm bragging to others that I'm a smart guy for getting help from some VERY smart guys!

    You geeks rock!:celebrate

    Thank you so much!
    Glad your computer is better.
The programs listed in the How to protect yourself are all good. I tend towards AVG and Zone Alarm because I'm familiar with them, but have heard equally good things about all of them.
    Happy computing!
