Help, got a tough one here! Opening as read-only in Word, why?

Ok, I'll try to explain the problem as clear as possible! We have terminal server clients using WYSE terminals connecting to a Citrix Server which is running Win2003 Server and Office2003. Anyways, here's the weird part. When the client goes out onto a network drive to access Word documents (which they should have full-control to), the Word documents open up as Read-Only. So they close the document down, and re-open it, and it's back to full-control for them, so the problem is fixed temporarily. But it will happen all over again the next day. So essentially, to fix the problem, they just need to open and close and re-open the document, but of course that is a hassle to do everyday. It's very strange. By the way, no other user has these documents open while they are trying to open them. Any ideas?? TIA

    Does the server support saving?

You also mentioned that "no other user has these documents open while they are trying to open them",have some users been getting error messages like the one below?

File in use. file name.doc is locked for editing by 'another user'.
Do you want to: Open a Read Only copy
Create a local copy and merge your changes later
Receive notification when the original copy is available

No they don't get that message. It just opens up in read-only, and if they try to do a File, Save, it won't let them and tells them to save it as another file name. Yes the server supports saving because if they close the file and re-open it right away, it's back to full-control and it can be saved. It's the strangest thing I have ever seen. Plus these documents are on a SAN, so we have many other folders/files that users are constantly opening and saving with no problems.

Let me explain the problem again. A user opens up a document on the W:\ drive by going through My Computer on their Thin Client. They have full-control to this document. But for some odd reason, at random times, the documents open up as read-only. So then, the user closes Word, and re-opens the same exact file, and everything is back to normal (full-control so they can save changes). It fixes the problem for the day, but the next day they try it, it usually does it all over again. This is happening to at least 8-10 users.

I know that with Citrix, the problem is not uncommon in what you stated. Most that I have seen is with other applications. I am wondering if the Roaming User Profile at the workstation is not clearing the local cache.

Are the users using the same machine every day, or different terminals when this is happening.

They are using the same machine every day.
