    Hi,
I have been having problems with my PC starting. As it gets to the user account or desktop phases of boot up, it hangs, sometimes for over 1 minute. Also when i empty the recycle bin a file called 'windows' appears in it for deletion.

I use both kaspersky anti virus and firewall both are kept up to date.

i have run through the READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support page and have these reports.

    Many thanks in advance
    Mat.

I also get some other strange things such as warning messages that come up from the tray saying that the security level has been changed and that i am connected to the internet when i have unpluged the dsl line.

    Again many thanks

    Welcome to Majrogeeks!

I'm not seeing any problems in your logs. If you are really experiencing some kind of new delay problem at start up that you did not have before, perhaps it is related to some new hardware or software recently installed.

Did you always have Absolute StartUp installed?

Running things like C:\Program Files\Oxigen\bin\Oxigen.exe can delay startup too as they download updates.

I do recommend that you now uninstall CounterSpy since you already have Windows Defender installed. CounterSpy can add to startup delay as it hooks itself into your OS inorder to provide protection. All security software (like your AV and firewall) will do this.

You also need to uninstall the below old versions of Sun Java
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.0_02
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2

I only just installed Absolute startup at the weekend, to see what could be causing the hanging. I have removed all the programs you recommend. My AV and firewall are due to expire at the end of the month, i was thinking of replacing them with NOD32 and zone alarm, do you think these programs are OK?

Many many thanks for your help
    Mat.

Did you look into the other comment I made about any other software or hardware that may have been installed prior to this problem starting.

You did not comment on Oxigen!

    Did you uninstall CounterSpy?

Yes these are good programs! And so is Kaspersky.

    Uninstalled Oxigen and counter spy
Had a large hang when booting now,
possable cause?: kaspersky AV downloading its updates as when i opened the window the realtime protection had not started and it was in the process of updating this changed as the hang dissapeared.
The only software i have installed previous to the hanging is SP2 for windows i thought that might be the problem until i got the windows file apearing in the recycle bin.

Okay! So are you saying that you believe Kaspersky is causing your problems? If so uninstall it and see what happens.

I'm not sure what you mean by this???? What windows file in the Recycle Bin and was does this have to do with installing SP2 and infact what does it have to do with malware?
