Help! I am being attacked!

I just installed the Zone Alarm free firewall, I use a cable modem and stupidly believed that the firewall included with XP was protecting me. In 30 minutes it has already blocked over 400 attempts to access my computer. I use Pest Patrol, Ad Aware, Spybot, and my Norton AV is updated and all were run yesterday. What is going on and what can I do?

While it's possible that some person(s) are trying to attack you, I doubt that what you're seeing are attacks. They are probably port scans and pings and being on broadband, you should expect quite a few per day.. they are non-stop, 24/7 and you could pull your hair out worrying over it. ZA is probably being over zealous in its' reporting of "attempts".

dont know what cable is like in US but here in the uk my step-dad has got a deal where he gets tv-internet and phone line rental as a all in one package anyway when i finally persuaded him to try zone alarm he was hitting the same sort of scores you are getting yet when hes not watching cable tv it dropped right off in the end he got so freaked out that everyone was after him he uninstalled it and refuses to use anything but xps built in firewall and his exact words were "ignorance is bliss"
so like kodo says i shouldnt worry too much i dont know if you can do this in the free version but you can set the option not to display informational alerts you will still recieve program alerts all you will see then will be the flashing icon in the taskbar which you can also turn off if it annoys you

 

Kodo called it right. Turn off XP's firewall if ur using ZA. Just make sure you've set ZA up properly. If you want more nfo, google how to make your ports stealth.

 

Hmm that might just be programs that tried to connect to internet etc. Also you might been pinged but I dont think so really. Just dont use Xp's firewall
