Was the theme installed as an entire 'program?' If so, have your tried to uninstall it either from either that program's folder - or uninstalling it by going to Control Panel => "Add/Remove?"

Are you using Windows XP or perhaps Win Millennium Edition? If so, have your tried using the Windows System Restore Tool in order to return your computer to a previously functional working state?

Side Note: Incidentally, it would be much easier to offer you more assistance/help if you provided a little more specific information in your future posts regarding your operating system's name [i.e. version] and perhaps the exact name of the theme; as well as providing the site link that leads to where you actually obtained the "theme" from, etc. ;)

    Good Luck!

Boot into safe mode. It has no theme service running and you will be able to0 access the desktop. You will get a pop-up window asking if you want to continue in safe mode or use system restore. Select 'no' and then restore to a point before you installed the theme. If that doesn't work, delete the theme in safe mode. Open the C:>Windows>Resources>Themes folder to find it. Windows should then default back to the classic theme when you reboot in normal mode.

If there was an MSstyles folder also, delete it too.

I do believe system restore may affect other users. Make sure everyone backs up their important data before you do it.

Did you replace your uxtheme.dll file with one patched to use themes not certified by Microsoft or a theme manager like StyleXP?

By "deleted the theme" do you mean that you "uninstalled" it?

The reason that I ask this is if this was an entire application that you downloaded from the web; it is generally not a very good idea to simply 'delete' programs. The best way to uninstall a theme is through the application's built-in interface. You can also sometimes uninstall by going to Control Panel => Add Remove and uninstalling or perhaps uninstalling from the programs folder.

As to your question "will it mess with all of the other people" if you mean 'other users' -- it all depends upon how many changes (program installs, uninstalls, updates, etc.) have been made since the last restore point was made, but restoring a system checkpoint is a system-wide change and therefore affects all users of the computer. However, System Restore does not monitor changes to, alter or recover personal data files such as Word documents, graphics, e-mail, etc. Basically, this means that it does not affect any new documents, e-mails, pics, etc. created or recieved between now and the time that you choose to restore from.

Whenever you must restore a system configuration, your best bet would be to choose the "most recent" restore point date, if possible. The older the system checkpoint the more likely you will have to reinstall any device drivers and/or any newer programs that have been recently installed or updated. However be absolutely sure to pick a restore date that is "earlier" than the date you installed the troublesome theme. Additionally, it is always a good idea to update your antivirus program after any System Restore is performed because it can sometimes set the AV programs back to whatever date that you choose.

Note: Only users with "administrative rights" can use System Restore to restore and adjust System Restore settings. To restore a previous system checkpoint, start the System Restore utility and choose the Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time option. The calendar control lets you choose a restore point based on date and description Choose the configuration date that you want to restore and then follow the prompts.

    Good Luck!
