Hi... i really appreciate your help.. i don't know what else to do with this issue...

My laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the Internet... First said there was a problem with the Winsock catalog... Then the Windows Firewall was off and can't have access to enable it back... My dvd/cd rom isn't recognized and finally my anti virus AVAST it's reporting an error Avast! Will not be able to protect mail/ news (error code 10050)

I tried to repair my connection but neither the WiFi or the LAN can be repaired. I tried netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log, nothing.. I tried to manually have access to the Firewall, same result...

Then, i finally found your website... I went through and followed each one of all the steps in the READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide

But still after all i have done i couldn't resolve it...

Pls!. guys help me! i been 4 days sticked to my laptop trying to fix it..

    All the logs attached..

Ah, i attached 2 copies of Combofix logs.. The " ..." i did without backing up the Windows Registry... and the "..." is the log what i did after install manually the Windows Recovery Console

    Thanks.. !!!

These services are not running and we need to repair them:
Dynamic Host Control Protocol -DHCP- is NOT running
TCP/IP Protocol Driver -TCP/IP- is NOT running
IPSEC driver -Ipsec- is NOT running

But first, let's remove the malware:

What are these, and if you don't know, delete them:
    C:\Program Files\ACW
    C:\Program Files\JL2005C

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

See the download links under this icon http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    1. Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    2. Click OK at the warning to continue to use The Avenger
    3. Do not change any of the check box options!
    4. Shut down your protection software now to avoid possible conflicts.
    5. Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of The Avenger
    6. Now click the http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9159/executeavenger.jpg button
    7. Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    8. Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when The Avenger finishes running.
    9. Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    10. A log file from The Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will pop-up for you to view when you login after reboot.
    11. Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below log:

    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Hi TimW...

First of all... thank you for your help and your prompt response..

    As you said...

I didn't know what these folder were, so i deleted both:
    C:\Program Files\ACW
    C:\Program Files\JL2005C

Download The Avenger, ran it, copied everything in the Quote and pasted it into the Input script.. Log attached bellow

    Successfully made it the fixMe.reg..

And to end up Ran the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file.. Below the log:

    TimW..

After the last post, I found that I was able to connect to the network, have access to windows firewall as the same as the full options of my Avast antivirus.

I can't believe it.. lol.. Look like everything is working except that I can’t see or have access to my dvd/cd rom. Could it be this related to the same problem?

Anyway I sent you the last logs following your instructions. Pls let me know if I need to do something else in order to make sure the laptop is running well.

When connected to the internet automatically a window with 10 different updates pops up. Should I accept these updates? Mostly of them are related to Microsoft Security.

What is the best way or program to check, clean and get rid or prevent viruses, malwares, etc. Is the "READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide" a good way to clean it or just when it’s infected?

Your help has been amazing, accurate and prompt.

Again Thank you very much and thank to the all people that make this website possible.

    Merry X-mas!!

    Alex

I don't understand how you now have internet access when your network log is showing these services as not running:
Dynamic Host Control Protocol -DHCP- is NOT running
TCP/IP Protocol Driver -TCP/IP- is NOT running
IPSEC driver -Ipsec- is NOT running

Please go to start / run / and type:
    services.msc
When the panel opens, check the status of each of these and report back.

As to keeping yourself clean, I will give you a link when we are about finished. But I must warn you, there are new infections out that are almost impossible to clean. So the best preventative will be you, as in your surfing habits.

For some reason the nwktst.txt didn't update, but you can see that netinfo.txt was updated and that the ipsec service was patched successfully:

Alejandro .....what issues are you still having?

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Go back into device manager and delete your CD/DVD device. Reboot and let's see if it isn't reinstalled with the reboot.
