    Okay, these are my problems:

    • my computer is running very slowly
    • whenever i turn on my computer (from shutdown), i get a dialog box saying something about ovrjwesn.dll and Mising entry:run
    • whenever i try to open Windows Explorer, it exits from Windows Explorer and my taskbar and desktop icons disappear
    • i ran avast antivirus but the only thing that came up is a file which i deleted permanently

Please help me, I am running under Vista.

    Re: help!!!- i think i have a a virus

Well, when I went to the read and run me first thread, i couldn't do anything on it because I couldn't open Windows Explorer. The only thing I did was download CCleaner and run it, but that didn't fix anything. I also tried taking out the battery and putting it back in, but that also didn't fix anything. I still have all the same problems. Please help!

Are you saying you couldn't download either combofix or the MGTools.exe? What is with the battery? Are you sure this is a malware issue and not a hardware issue? Did you remove some files before this started?

well, i couldnt download MGTools because i can only download to my desktop and i cant change that. combofix doesnt work.

i took out the battery because my dad suggested it.

all i did before this happened was download daemon tools lite and download a file from a free serial site (which, in hindsight i probably shouldnt have done). i suspect it is the file i downloaded, but avast cant find it.

Did you try going back to a restore point preceeding these problems? If you've never done this before, Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
check the box to Restore my computer to an earlier time and click on Next. You'll see a calander with highlighted dates. Choose one of the dates just preceeding these problems and allow your system to return to that date. Let us know whether this helped or not.

No! It will only change the registry back to the point where you restore to and also possibly repair some Windows system files that may have been changed. But before trying System Restore, I would like to see if you can do the below first.

You should try running ComboFix from safe boot mode. If it works attach this file.

While it is best to be run from the C:\MGtools.exe location as we specify, it will probably run okay for you from your Desktop so give it a try. The log file will still be created as C:\MGlogs.zip Attach this file.

im not sure i understood you. if i saved file A today, and i restored my system back 5 days, would file A still be on my hard drive?

    Hi pspuser925,
Just for information and not to interrupt your exchange with Chaslang, if you installed a program like Combofix or an antivirus program or a program which records and plays music, those programs would all be gone, because installing programs makes changes to your registry. If you wrote a letter using Word or if you recorded an mp3 file or if you received and sent an e-mail or if you put all the photos from your camera into the computer, these files would not be changed or lost, because they do not make any changes to your registry. I hope that helps.

Thank you all for your help, but as I was opening a file, it sent me to Windows Explorer. To my surprise, nothing happened. I opened a few files, closed the window and started it up again, but nothing happened. I guess my problem was somehow fixed. I still get the message about ovrjwesn.dll, but everything seems fine for now. I will let you know if something happens again. Again, thanks for your help!

The "message about ovrjwesn.dll'..is no doubt because there is still that item in your run keys and until we can see the logs, we can't tell you how to remove it.
