    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered before, I have done a search with not much success.

I am posting this for a friend who's computer has become virtually unusable. He appears to have contracted a virus which has seriously slowed his computer and closes most windows straight away as soon as they're opened. Have tried opening the task manager and this is open for a nano-second, so no luck their. Unable to access CD ROM drives, unable to search the internet. This all happens in safe mode too. Unable to open the add/remove programs either or run regedit.

Does anyone know of this virus/problem and can anything be done?

    Thanks for any help,

    Matt.

Try booting it into safemode and run a virus scan. be sure to find out what antivirus software he has and bring the virus definition update with you. ;)

oopps, did'nt see the comment about safemode at the end of your post. sorry.

Other options, if not able to go even into safemode,... pull his HD out and put it into a good computer, boot to the good computer's OS and run a virus scan on the unbootable HD. Then put it back and see if you can get it to scan on it's own.

    Thanks for replying,

I've tried that but unable to open antivirus (Norton) and unable to reinstal. It's pretty much disabled everything you'd need to use!

Just wondering if this sounds like any particular virus.

    Matt.

Just seen your reply! If it comes to it, I'll have to do that - access the harddrive from another OS.

    Thanks again.
