Restart the Lifebook and immediately press Delete or F2 to enter BIOS. Go into the Boot Menu and set USB ahead of the hard drive.

    Hope this helps. :)

I can search for further information. Do you have a second computer with a CD/DVD drive and USB ports or an external USB connected CD/DVD drive and a valid XP installation CD? These will be necessary.

OK. Be patient with me, OK? I can't do any more with this tonight as I have to prepare dinner for my sister and myself. I'll get back on it the first thing tomorrow morning, OK?

In the meantime, someone else reading this thread may jump in and offer assistance.

    Have a good evening. :)

OK, I'm back. The manual referred to by the previous post doesn't tell you how to set up your bootable flash drive.

I'm going to have to do this in multiple posts as there's a 10 minute limit on editing posts and I don't think I can get everything in within that time limit.

The first thing you're going to need to do is create 3 new folders on your C:\ drive root directory. The first one is simply labelled "OS". Once created, open that folder and create two more new folders inside of it. One labelled "Root" and the other labelled "Boot". Don't include the quotation marks in the folder names.

To the "Root" folder, copy the entire contents of the Windows Installation CD. You'll need to download CDBurnerXP Professional 3.0.116 (click on the Download from External mirror button) and install it. This is the software we'll be using to create a bootable ISO image which we'll "burn" to your flash drive later using ISO2Disc. Download and install that as well.

What I really want to do is go through the process myself as well so I can get screen captures of what you need to do. That's why I'll need to do it in multiple posts. I don't know if I can post all of the screen captures inline and there's a limit on the number of attachments and their sizes to each post.

I'm going to get back to you later. :)

    Further update:

I went through the entire process — creating the ISO and got screen shots, "burning" the ISO to a 2 GB USB flash drive and got screen shots and tried to boot into Win XP setup from the flash drive — I got an error "NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart" and had to pull the flash drive.

I've got to do some investigating into why I'm getting this error — the NTLDR file IS in the i386 folder on the flash drive where it belongs as is TXTSETUP.SIF and all the other files. So, I'm a bit confused as to what's going on.

I'll post again later after I've solved the problem. I don't want you to have the same issues. :)

i think i got my usb to be bootable i just cant seem to get the notbook to boot up from usb even when usb is first in boot order.

    heres what i followed

I tried The program suggested in the video and it didn't work for my computer.

I went through all of the steps again but changed the boot.img file and still got the same "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart." error. I dont know why:confused.

This is from page 30 of the Toshiba manual you may have downloaded:

    BIOS Guide
A guide to your notebook’s BIOS is available online.
Please visit our service and support Web site at http://
    www.computers.us.fujitsu.com/support. Once there,
select LifeBook BIOS Guides from the pull-down menu
for your notebook series. If you are unsure of your notebook’s
BIOS number, refer to your packing slip.

Maybe the BIOS guide will help you sort out the boot from USB problems.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

ok im installing it now i may need help with drivers.

  14. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

That may be a problem because Toshiba doesn't seem to offer the drivers for download from their site. You may have to purchase installation media which in your case might be a USB flash drive with the drivers on it. Make sure to install the drivers in correct sequence.

i did not have oringal disk so i downloaded one that was in it xp home sp3 thinking i could use my key but apperently not ,i do have my own copy of xp pro but i cant get this to boot up in boot mode to try and install it..

That was why I asked if you had a VALID Windows installation CD. By that I meant one with a COA/Product Key.

If you downloaded an ISO from a site that says it's directly linking to Digital River's ISO files, you won't get any help from Microsoft either as far as getting a COA/Product Key from them. Microsoft has filed DMCA against hundreds of sites.

An "Official" download from Digital River comes in a 3-part box form of ESD which you'd have to convert to an ISO.

i figured i have the product key on the back of the lifebook so as long as put a home edition sp3 in it would be ok,so i do have a valid copy of pro with key but theres no way to install it now .i may have to just trash this notebook. What kind of junk will not boot up from usb ?

An old one. Since the speed is 800MHz, that is an old laptop. You aren't going to be able to speed up an 800MHz computer.

Use a boot floppy and point it to what you want to boot from. I had to do this to an old Dell Optiplex desktop (700MHz) that was not able to boot from the CD-ROM drive.

    1. Download and unzip this
    http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite
select the 0.7 binary version for Windows
    2. Go here, click on sbm.img and download it.
    3. Put a blank floppy into the drive.
    4. Run the program that you downloaded in step #1.
    5. When it asks, make sure drive A is selected and point what to write to the img file you downloaded in step #2.

Restart the computer, making sure it is set to boot from the floppy drive and you will be able to boot from the CD drive or USB if you have a bootable stick inserted in a USB port.

You need the USB mouse driver. Here's the link to the Fujitsu page. Enter the serial number in the Product search by serial/identnumber box.

i also am not sure why i cannot run it wirelessly is there a way to tell if my card is good or not.

  26. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

Again, you need the bluetooth driver. I hope Fujitsu is still supporting your lifebook. It didn't come up when I tried to do a manual search for the model. The bluetooth driver may be a separate driver though if the wireless mouse was bought aftermarket as an addon.

OK, I'm getting a liitle confused here.

When you said you couldn't get it to work wirelessly, I thought you meant a wireless mouse. Are you talking about your wireless networking? If you are, go into Control Panel and select Network Connections. Right click on the wireless network connection and select Properties. Place a checkmark in the Show icon in the notification area when connected then click OK. Your connection should then show in the system tray.

I took a screenshot of my System Tray to give you an idea. The network connection with the red X is my bluetooth which I don't have activated.

XP automatically hides most icons in the system tray but if you click the arrow to the left of the visible icons the others will briefly show again. You can change this behaviour but you need an XP user to tell you how.

It means you'll need the drivers for those devices. The "Other Devices" may mean your sound card (if any). Go to the Fujitsu support page I linked to in a previous reply and see if you can get the necessary drivers from there. If not, come back here and I'll try to walk you through using Device Manager to update the drivers.

it is unchecked and still only sound shows in the bar,i also looked for the drivers listed but cant find them even driver genious wont get them, and the home site does not list them.

OK, go into Device Manager again. Expand each item with the yellow question mark by clicking on the + to the left of them.

You'll have to update the drivers for them individually. So right click each device detected and select Update Driver. You'll get the Hardware Update Wizard. To allow Windows to search for software, select "Yes this time only" and click next. Then select "Install software automatically" and click next. Windows will search for the driver and if it finds one will install it automatically. Once it's installed the driver, click Finish.

Again, you're going to have to do this for EACH device individually.

This is why the wireless icon didn't show in the system tray — it isn't installed yet and it needs the Network Contoller to be installed first.

It was my mistake. I forgot you can't connect to the internet because your network (ethernet) driver isn't installed yet. Sorry. :-o

Go back into device manager and select the network controller in network adapters. Right click on it and select properties. Select the details tab. Information should appear in the box. Copy and paste all of that information into your next post. I'll try to locate the driver for it that you can install.

Once the network controller is installed, you should be able to go online via your ethernet connection. You should then be able to use device manager to install the rest of your drivers.

His 5800 doesn't show in the list for the P series when you select by Model. I doubt that it will show in by Configuration# or by Serial# either as he's already tried that and found nothing. It seems Fujitsu is no longer supporting his model.

Ok, once again go into device manager and right click on the wireless device in network adapters, select properties and go to the details tab. Copy and paste the information that shows in the box here in your next post.

That information contains the vender/manufacturer ID and other information. Sometimes it's the only way to find a driver.

    Hi

Try the guide below and as written and attach the log

Very likely as this is an old PC and running XP that some of the data this old version of Everest finds will be useful in locating drivers if the support listing for P1120 Lifebook at Fujitsu doesn't have all drivers. One thing I will suggest is not to use any driver finder application as they can be more problematic than enough as they get generic drivers in the main and not ones that are specific to a OEM model PC like Fujitsu.

One thing I didn't note as yet is, is your XP at SP3 (may have missed the current installs reference) if not then download the full version and install, as you will likely need this Service Pack to get audio working properly. Download HERE

But HERE as already listed earlier and click Notebook PC then in the next box choose P Series and then in the next box 1120 and click GO and all the drivers for your model Lifebook P1120 will show. Wireless driver you need is the WLAN - Intersil V3.0.4 one listed under type as Updated.

Do check Device Manager and if you have any yellow ! marks by any device and cannot find the driver let us know what it is and we can assist.

Page for the downloads looks like this are Fujitsu USA

I've read the Everest report. You do have WLAN.

You need to go back to the download page you got your drivers from and download the WLAN driver and install it. Then open up Network Connections in Control Panel and go from there.

wifi would not find a connection ,it has a wireless card.i got this pc from a friend so im not sure but in the icon tray it did show it trying to connect, plus iv downloaded the wireless driver and installed it but i still have all those ??? in device manager.

If you don't have your own wi-fi, or if there's no wi-fi hotspot nearby, there won't be a connection. If you do have your own wifi, you'd need to enter your network key/password.

Which devices are still showing the yellow question marks? You may need to download and install all of the Windows updates.
