Okay so I am a little ignorant and illiterate:eek:, no alot, when it comes to computers. I thought I was doing a good thing for my hard drive (freeing up more space) when I decided to take my son's iTunes files and everything else that went with it and move them to my external Freeagent hard drive. NOW, my son's iTunes are reduced to a "read" style document and totally unaccessable to him. I moved the "files" back to the C drive hoping that by some miracle they would transfer back in the way they were but they are the same. HELP...Do we have to start all the way over getting him set-up on iTunes and get all his music re-purchased and downloaded? I am at a loss:cry

Can anyone shed some light on this for us. Thank you so much in advance for your help. Cinders

Hmmm. So you just took all the songs out of the folder and put them somewhere else? I did that with mine a while ago (as a backup though, I didn't cut and paste them)and it didn't really have any effect. When you open up iTunes is there anything your library? Can you copy them directly from wherever they are back into the iTunes library? (as opposed to putting them back into a folder). I presume iTunes is on your harddrive and not your external one?

right click one of the songs and what does it say (what are the properties)? if your able to, post a screenshot. what is the extension (ie. wma, mpg, etc)? if your not able to see the extension, then unselect the box (2nd screenshot). <-- tools (at the top of my computer), folder options, "view tab".

what is it set to open the file with? look at the screenshots. you should be able to change what to open it with to i-tunes (1st screenshot) - in my example, it is set to open with rhapsody, and it is a ".rax" file.

i don't know why the settings changed when you moved the files to the external h/d. did you copy the whole folder, or just the songs? when you moved the songs back to the "c" drive, did you put them back into the same folder from where they came? it's possible that you didn't get all the licenses, and/or related stuff? anyway, let us know what's up. - sos

Sorry I have taken so long to get back with you. I have been ill. My whole computer is so messed up I have summoned the help of a computer tech to come to my house and fix it. I am getting Error 1327 Invalid Drive:E\ Fatal Error during installation. I can't uninstall or install a thing. It is a mess. Thanks though for your helpfulness. Cinders
