Let me first say I have an old PC, my PC is using Windows 98 :-( . I am buying a new PC in a couple of months so this old PC is my only PC for now. I'm also new to all this so could you please be kind and patient with me. :-o

I think my PC is infected with some sort of keylogger. Since last month my PC has been acting worse than usual, at random times when I'm online searching or visiting sites my mouse cursor will move all over my screen all by it's self and then a strange white and black circle type icon randomly pops up on my computer screen when I visit any website, The strange icon especially pops up when I try to email someone or when I receive emails, the icon also pops up at certain moments when I visit Myspace and send and receive private Myspace messages. The icon pops up on my screen and moves to the top, middle or bottom of my screen and then it changes to another icon symbol and moves towards whatever text I'm typing/emailing and then my PC makes a beep noise almost as if the icon is scanning the text and pages I visit. I have reformatted my hard drive quite a few times and scanned my pc for spyware and viruses but the strange icon keeps coming back. Also I noticed that the icon seems to pop up when I type/search certain words online. Also something keeps disabling my firewall and freezing my pc.

I installed and ran CCLEANER, I've scanned my PC for spyware using Adaware, I also have Outpost Firewall, and I scanned for viruses using Trojan Killer but the antivirus and antispyware found no spyware or viruses but the strange icon is still on my PC. I wasn't able to install Super Antispyware because the download won't complete and an error pops up saying that SuperAntispyware can't find the file MSIEXEC. I've had SuperAntispyware installed before but it would always freeze up so I could never scan my PC so I had no choice but to install Adaware. I also installed MGTOOLS9X, the hijack log is below but I have no idea what I'm supposed to look for :cry

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 3:09:07 AM, on 11/28/08
    Platform: Windows 98 Gold (Win9x 4.10.1998)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v4.72 SP1 (4.72.3110.0000)
    Boot mode: Normal

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.

I also took SOME screen shots of the strange icon that keeps popping up when I visit sites or recieve and send emails. I'm hoping you can take a look at the screen shots and maybe tell me what you think the icon could be. The screen shots are below: The screen shots may need to be enlarged.

The black & white circle Icon appeared at the very top LEFT of the screen when I tried to write an email::cry

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach (not post inline) the logs reqested in the cleaning procedure for your Windows version. I know you say you have a problem running SUPERAntiSpyware but you still need to attach the MGlogs.zip file that was requested. The procedure did not ask you to attach the HijackThis log.

That being said, your problem may not be malware especially since you implied you have formatted and I assume you meant your formatted and reinstalled Windows. Unless you were reinstalling from infected backups, this would not happen unless your BIOS is infected. If your BIOS is infected, you would have to reflash the BIOS which is not something we can help you with in this forum. That would be a topic for the Hardware Forum.

What you decribe and what your images show, just looks like a control for mouse software. It looks like a button you would get from a mouse with a scroll wheel. Perhaps you just have mouse problems or mouse software issues. Maybe it is even related to your On Screen Display software ( OSD). You should try just using a different mouse to see what happens. Also try not loading all of those unnecessary items from Compaq.
