    Hi Guys,

a colleague of mine appears to have inadvertantly downloaded a malware called Live Security Suite on to a Windows XP o/s machine. I know its unforgiveable but there it is.

I have read other threads and began the usually reliable and long standing removal instructions for these things from the site but I am thwarted at every turn this time.

I cannot open any program not even the task manager or help I get the message 'windows cannot access the specified device or path or file. You may not have the permissions to access the item'

I have tried in safe mode, as adminsitrator and others users, no change. I have tried to copy files from major geeks recommended removal software but when I try to open them the .exe files are all blocked. The damned thing won't even let me get up the command prompt!

I am at my wits end. I don't profess to be anything other than an amatuer with computers but I have followed advice from here many times in the past and always succesfully but if I cannot stop the Live SS.exe file running I don't see where I can go with the rest of the removal process. Hopefully someone will give me the answer before I lose what little hair I have left. The removal of this blighter is now personal!

    Cheers Darryl C :confused

If you have access to a different computer, try creating this disc and then boot to it with the infected machine:

    Kaspersky Rescue Disk.

    Hi Tim,

downloaded and burned on to disk but try as I might I cannot get the machine to boot from the disk. I have tried F12 and even entered the bios and altered the boot up sequence but no joy.

Any other clues if i can't get the thing to boot from the disk I don't really know where to go with this one

Thanks for you help really appreciated

You can try this as an alternative:
BitDefender Rescue USB --> this is if you can set your system to boot from USB.

What happens when you try to boot to the Kaspersky disc?

Do you have another computer that you can slave your hard drive to? Only do this if the other computer is well protected and all AV and AS software is up to date with the virus definitions.

You may also try to fix your exe file associations with this:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm --> scroll down to the ninth file.
