I have read and performed all instructions as requested. I did some of these scans before finding your wonderful site but still did everything as outlined in the instructions. I am running Windows XP Pro and ie 6 with all the latest updates and service packs. I have attached all pertinent logs.

Here is the problem. While browsing, every 6th click or so is redirected to an "acu-search" (64.40.106.133) page. All searches in Google bring up a search enhancer pane on the left side of the window. EVERY web page has some words that have been transoformed in to links to the acu-search hell that is my life. These links are underlined and are green.
    Please help!!!

< removed email address for reason in edit comment below> - if you want it.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

One update that you need to get still is your Sun Java update. You are way out of date. We can do that later. Remind me! ;) But it will be in my final closing steps to you anyway.

Are you still running StopZilla or did you uninstall it? It seems broken!

Let's start by downloading HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Please bring up Task Manager by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the Processes tab. Look for the below process(es) and if found, End them:

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: ohb - {5ED7D3DE-6DBE-4516-8712-01B1B64B7057} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool\nst13.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E3215F20-3212-11D6-9F8B-00D0B743919D} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {CA034DCC-A580-4333-B52F-15F98C42E04C} (Downloader Class) - http://www.stopzilla.com/_download/Auto_Installer/dwnldr.cab
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: runweb - C:\WINDOWS\repair\runweb.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    c:\program files\MyWay <--- delete the whole folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool <--- delete the whole folder
    c:\windows\system32\MYDLL.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\repair\runweb.dll

Additional step to delete files in the Downloaded Program Files folder :
    - Click Start, Run, and enter cmd in the box and click OK. This opens a command prompt windows.
    - Enter the following command lines each followed by the enter key
    cd C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\
    attrib -r -h -s initial.inf
    del initial.inf
    exit

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Everything seems to be working fine. Thank you.

    Just a few notes:
The file 'C:\WINDOWS\repair\runweb.dll' you wanted me to delete did not exist.

You wanted me to end some processes in task manager but didn't tell me which ones (I'm guessing this reply is just your standard form). It didn't seem to matter though.

Since I had to browse to test things out I updated my Java.

As you asked, I had previously uninstalled Stopzilla. Also, there appear to be a few things that have missing files in my HijackThis log. Can I use HijackThis to delete them?

Attached you will find an updated HijackThis log.

Yes that was a template and I forgot to edit the sentence out.

Good! That is one less security issue and one less thing you will need to do in my final steps.

    Let's fixed this.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to STOPzilla Local Service ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    STOPzilla Local Service

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT and reboot when it tells you it needs to.
After reboot, make sure the below line is no longer in your log.

    O23 - Service: STOPzilla Local Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\STOPzilla!\szntsvc.exe (file missing)

HijackThis is not always correct in stating files are missing. You always need to check. Sometime they are there and they may be needed. For example the two for your Bitdefender online scan are there. That's the below two:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    Also the below is incorrect:
    O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)

The ones for Microsoft SQL Server you will have to check to see if they are still there (I would say they are since the service is shown running in your process list) and you will have to tell me if you actually use this software. They are services and cannot just be removed using HijackThis.

You also have to tell me if you use the Verizon Toolbar and whether the files are really missing. Also check to see if it has been uninstalled.

    Thank you, again.

I followed your instructions and everything seems to have worked. I used Windows Defender to remove some items from my startup. Is this a good method?

I do not use the Verizon toolbar.

What did you disallow from starting?

It is still showing. Did you look in Add/Remove programs for it? If it is there, uninstall it.

If it is not there, then use HijackThis to fix the below lines:

    O2 - BHO: Verizon Broadband Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-D0FC-E57AF4D5FA7D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\VERIZO~1\SFP\vzbb.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: Verizon Broadband Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-D0FC-E57AF4D5FA7D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\VERIZO~1\SFP\vzbb.dll (file missing)
    O16 - DPF: {DB0474CC-8EF6-47FC-905B-23FC58A70817} (RegPropsCtrl Class) - http://download.verizon.net/sfp/Cabs/hst/webinstall/HstWebInstall.cab
