Hi for the past 3 days I've been receiving hundreds of messages from Symantec (my Anti Virus and firewall provider is Norton). When I reboot the computer Symantec says that it's analyzing message 1of 1 but cannot send it to <and then gives a random email address>. Usually the topic of the email is something regarding winning $5000, starting a new university degree, getting enhancements etc. it seems as though someone is piggybacking my internet connection to send out spam however, I can't seem to find out how. Also friends on my msn messenger contact list were complaining that they were receiving messages from me when i signed in saying "check out this photo I want to post on facebook" --of course, I never sent out the message. This is in fact how I believe we got the virus, my brother said he clicked on a link his friend sent him over msn, saying to check out a cool you tube video (he even did a virus scan that came back clean) but when he clicked the link, something started downloading, but when he tried opening it, nothing happened. Then he asked his friend, and his friend said he never sent that message.

I've read and completed the instructions on how to clean the operating system of Malware. I downloaded programs instructed and ran them as outlined, and for a few hours I didn't have any problems but now it's worse than ever and is completely crashing my computer. I have messages from Symantec that completely take up my entire screen. The funny thing is is that if i reboot with the modem off, and turn it off after, i dont' get the pop ups right away, its only when the modem is on and i log in. I noticed on the task manager that a file, ccapp.exe is taking up 60-90% of my op system, and is the reason why my comp keeps freezing. I've attached the files from my virus scans, please help, I don't know what to do next.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Do you know what the below files are? If so, it was a very bad idea to save them here. Move them someplace more permanent and safe if you need them.
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\image38z5.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\picts-7881.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\IMG-0012(2).zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\IMG-0012(1).zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\Karen\IMG-0012.zip
Now let's remove a malware service.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Print Spooler Service
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/pastetd1eoya7ocux into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Archivos de programa\Archivos comunes\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Archivos de programa\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xrd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xrd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wqvmvgxx] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wqvmvgxx.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [wqvmvgxx] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wqvmvgxx.exe
    O4 - Startup: Registration Heroes of Might & Magic 5 - Tribes of the East.LNK = C:\Archivos de programa\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\registration\RegistrationReminder.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

When I ran Avenger and copied the script I got an error saying "Selected file does not appear to be a valid script" then I got an error code 0.

Also in regards to those other zip files that seem to have been uploaded, I have no idea how they got there as I didn't manually attach them. I have deleted them off my computer as when I unzip them they are blank.

Hi, I reran Avenger and it was fine...I must have missed a character when I first copied and pasted the text. Sorry about that. I haven't had anymore Symantec popups so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again for your help!

It appears that you missed two of the lines to fix with HijackThis.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [wqvmvgxx] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wqvmvgxx.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [xrd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xrd.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
