Help me Child-proof a computer

I need to make a computer where a child cannot access it. I tried putting passwords on the windows s/n's, but these children are smart. They talked the parents out of the p/w. Is "net nanny" still the best to limit the sites available to kids? Thanks so much!

At the risk of coming across as a smart-aleck (and if I do, I apologize), the best way to child-prof a PC is to teach the parents of the children basic computer security and basic computer skills.

Not giving their children the password falls way and above, and far, far beyond the basics, though... if the parents are giving the password to the kids they are either stupid enough that this is not by far their biggest problem!--see pre-emtpive apology above--or they have no interest in protecting their children from the dangers of the internet. And why you and I might think that's short-sighted and wrong, we have no right to over-rule a parent's decision about their child.

a quick google search may help, but agreeing with 'if the parents are giving' sentiment then there isn't much to be done, even with software... those settings can be changed too...

If the parents don't want the kids to use the computer, then they shouldn't give them the password. End of problem. But there's no software fix for stupid.

Simple solution, remove the power cables from the computer and lock them in the car trunk. When the parents are home, the cables come out and the computer can be fired up.

Thanks but these kids have several things with the same pwr. cord and they hide atleast one from the parents. Do you know of any software that would stop them?

Well the dad get's the password set and gives it only to mom, then mom types it in for kids and they go into settings and remove it. Smart kids, not-so smart parents.

Which version of Windows is on the computer?

You aren't "less likely to pick up malware".....you are less likely using a non-admin account to let the malware spread to all the accounts!

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of Group Policy enforcing inability to change/remove passwords on the accounts.

EDIT: Actually, it's in "control userpasswords2" ("Run" command)

Based on this and several other things you've posted in the thread, it sounds as if the first thing you should be doing is to change their computer set-up to one where the kids are not in control over it.

The parents give them the password, the kids take the power cord and hide it from their parents...?

See my first post in this thread: The computer is probably not that family's biggest problem...

I agree, there are some happy go lucky kiddos playing havic on parents who are not savy enough to realize what the 'small' things they are doing isn't so much, just annoying

I guess I should've included that I use PCtattletale and it works for me. A lot of work posting websites you don't want available though. It has an invisible option that keeps the kids from knowing it's watching.
