    Hello ,

I was wondering if I could upgrade my OS ( windows 2000 professional )
to windows XP Home Edition that I have purchased some time ago.
It tried the cd but nothing happens. I guess i'm stuck with windows 2000 professional forever ? Help is appreciated about this problem.

You cant upgrade from a business OS to consumer.

    You'd have to clean install.

reformat the drive and install winx XP, you can do it when you boot the windows installation CD.

If you have an extra Partition or the ability to create another you can Dual Boot (run two OSes)

If you try to boot to the XP CD & you cant, you may need to set your Boot Order from within BIOS

Like Adrynalyne said, you will have to perform a clean install of Windows XP Home by booting from the CD when your computer starts. If you place the CD in the drive and restart your computer there should be a prompt on the screen to press any key to boot from the CD. If there is not, and your Windows 2000 loads right away, then you have to change the boot order in your BIOS. To do this, you have to press a button, usually delete, when the computer is starting up. You will be taken into your computer's BIOS where you can make various hardware changes. Look for something that has to do with Boot order, and make your CD/DVD drive the first device to boot, hard disks second. Save your settings and restart the computer. You should now be asked to boot from the CD/DVD.

Please be aware though, that when you perform a clean install, you have to format your hard drive, which can be done in the Windows XP setup after you boot from the CD. This will delete everything on the drive so make sure you back up all important information to a CD or another drive. Try to have your motherboard and graphics drivers downloaded and saved on a CD or drive before you format the hard drive. This way you can install those right away after the install and you will then be able to configure your internet access and update windows.
