    Hello all,
This is my first post, so please bear with me.
Im trying to overclock my core 2 duo 6600, not too the extreme, but i'd like to get 3.0ghz out of it with the stability. Please explain to me what settings i should put it at. I dont want to keep clearing the cmos because of mistakes..lol.

    Heres the specs:

    Core2duo 6600
    (2) x 1gb OCZ 667mhz dual channel
    (2) x 1gb Corsair value 667mhz memory
    Asus P5NSLI mobo
    (2) BFG 7950 GT OC running at SLi
    WD sata 3 250gb
    ultra 550w powersupply
    thermal take cooling fan

it runs between 35-40 degrees celcius now.
What should i change the fsb/multiplier on the cpu/memory to?

Also, i have 4gb installed, and windows only sees 2.75gb.. wtf is up with that?

    Thanks in advance

So i decided to try it out today..
My motherboard has AI overclock utility. It overclocks at 5,10,15 and 20%
Im only able to overclock up to 10%, anything higher, it wont even boot up.
I can manually set it, but dont know what to put it at.
Now instead of running 2.4, its showing it at 2.64ghz. Not much of a difference.
Plz help! Trying to get it at 3.0 without destroying it..lol.
    Thnx

What you should never forget is that overclocking voids your warranty, for a good reason. You're running your system out of spec.
Since you're overclocking it, it will run faster thus creating more heat.
I've noticed you don't have a good cpu cooler or airflow.
If you're serious about overclocking this thing, get good cooling and read, read, read.
There's no real 'foolproof' way to overclock anything, there's always risks attached.

    My own system;
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe (Bios version 0814)
    CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600
    RAM: Corsair Twin2X2048 PC6400C4 (2x 1GB)
    Cooling:
    - CPU: ThermalRight XP-120 heatsing with Papst 4412FGLL fan (120x25x25mm)
Casefans: 2x Papst 4412FGLL fans (front, intake), 1x Cooler Master 80mm fan (top, intake), 1x Papst 4412FGLL (rear, exhaust), 1x Cooler Master 120mm fan (side, exhaust over GPU).
As you can see, there's a lot of effort being made to keep the system cool. Besides the fans, I´ve invested in a good case to help cool the system and for ease of work when upgrading. It´s all inside a Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01 and a Tagan TG580-U15 (580W) power supply gives it the necessary stable voltages it needs.
As such my E6600 currently runs at 3,22Ghz.
    Temps:
    Idle: 28*C
    Full load: 48 ~ 50*C
    Cpu Vcore: 1,1375V
    RAM Voltage: 1,8V (timings: 4-4-4-12)

As for Windows seeing only 2,75GB; that's a known limitation that's fixed in Vista.

read the OC Guide at the top of the overclocking forum. it will walk u through all that stuff u need to know about; FSB, multipliers, voltages, memory timings etc...

Hey loyski.....the secrets in the voltage supply (v-core) to the CPU!

As the others say, read up, then read some more....good knowledge, good cooling, and good sense all go in to make a sweet O/C.

Why the need to O/C an e6600....thats one nice system you have already

    Regards...
