Hi guys. I am new here and looking for some help please! I need advice on a good inkjet printer. I am just starting up a business printing t shirts at home. The old scanner/printer I am using is about 10 years old and seen better days. I'm currently printing on to heat transfer paper and ironing on which until I have better cash flow will remain my method of doing it. I really need a new printer that will give me better quality. I would at some point like to expand to print wall decals etc. Anyone help me with what printers I should be looking at? Ideally needs a scanning facility too but I could always use my old one just to scan so not the end of the world. Please help guys I really have no idea. Don't want to spend too much to start out with either. Cheers :)

Sorry, but that really does not help. That may mean $100 to some or $1000 to others. Since you need a commercial/industrial grade device, you need to invest in something that is designed to print all day long and last a long time. That will take some serious cash.

So you need to set a realistic budget, and let us know what that is.

Sorry, up to $200 approx but it doesn't need to be a commercial one as starting as a small part time business. I don't expect to be printing every day. Your help is really appreciated

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I have no experience in that type printing so not sure I can be of much help. Hopefully someone else with experience in that area will offer some suggestions.

In the mean time, you might look through here to read what some folks are saying.

If you are doing a lot of printing, the cost of the replacement ink is a more important factor than the initial cost of the printer.

Ideally, you want to find one were you can buy quality aftermarket ink versus grossly overpriced "genuine" cartridges. You also want something with separate color cartridges (Black, Cyan, Magenta, etc.) versus a single color cartridge.

In this respect, Brother printers are the best choice. I have one I've printed in excess of 10,000 pages on using aftermarket ink with no problems. Here's one for around $100 (note that the cost of ten aftermarket ink cartridges is about one third of a single HP cartridge):

    Hope this helps. :)

Is the printer you linked to the one you use or is yours a different model? I've got a Lexmark X4690 that has given me quite a few problems and I'm looking to replace it.
