Help me PLZ

Ok, Im in a bit of a major pickel. We had this customer bring in his laptop for virus/malware removal. He had 2 antivirus installed ZA IS, and AVG free. I uninstalled ZA as to he wanted me to, and Just left AVG. I did however have to upgrade it to 8.0 as it was 7.5. Anyways, I did the restart and got a boot error. What it was I cant remember. So then I am trying to do a windows overlay to see if that solves the problem and I get this error. "Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more info." Contents of the log file: "Error: The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invaild. The error code is fffffc02 The system cannot find message text for message 0xfffffc02 in the message file for syssetup.dll"


Now could the one of his viruses have done this?

 

We have in our shop 3 different copies of XP Home. 2 of which are legitimate cd's and the 3rd is one with Sata drivers for Dual-booting XP and Vista. All it is is just the XP Home install files w/ sata drivers

I require Immediate assistance with this please. Will give many thanks to whoever can help me with this, and not lose any data on our clients driver.

no help, I tried looking up the error, and just kinda got confused. I did find someone else who had the same issuse as me, they got past it, and they dont know how I think. Ill try and find website/forum link.


But I cannot stress that the data on this HDD is important.

 

I kno that the backup should have been done, I am one of the new green guys, and the senior guy was busy with another important issue. and even he didnt tell me to backup. Guess I should've anyways.
