So, once again I am cleaning my mother in laws computer to remove viruses, spyware, adware . . .you name it. The problem is, no matter how much I beg and plead, she can't stop herself from downloading cutsie crap like screensavers and cursor programs and garbage like that. No matter what virus programs and ad-blockers and spyware utilities I install, somehow she always manages to infect things beyond recognition anyway and then I get stuck with the clean up.

So I guess what I need to know next is . . . does anyone know of anywhere that has free screensavers and wallpapers and things like that, that is known to be malware and virus free? I'm obviously not going to get her to stop downloading crap, but maybe I can at least set a bookmark or something for her to make these "clean up trips" less frequent.

At the very least, I've become pretty decent at PC clean up. *sigh*

    Help me!

And to save yourself the trouble of cleaning it all up again next time, why not image the drive/partition, then that way you can just copy it all back again in no time at all.

Come to think of it, if your looking for free stuff, tell her to go to www.cnet.com. Under their download section, they have "desktop enhancements" which are all checked and safe. Wallpapers, themes, smileys,... everything.

hehe technology moves the world ahead but mothers in law won't give up. They find ways to take best advantage of technology to torture guys.

I'll look into CNET, I haven't been there in a long time. The Microsoft Plus suggestion I don't get though . . . it looks like video and music programs, where does the cutsie screensavers come into play there unless your suggesting that she make her own, in which case I'd have to teach her how to do it. Go ahead and pick out which bullet you want me to swallow if thats the case.

Tried to get another mother in law, but my wife didn't like the new one so I had to send her back.

Maye you could teach her to scan all downloads before she applies them?

funny idea Tim, with all the respect. My father used Norton once upon a time and instead of letting the malware directly in he just put it on quarantine. Of course worms knew their way out...

The Microsoft Plus comes with a ton of themes and wallpaper. And you can download more from their site.
