Help! Mobo not getting any power!

So the title says it all! I recieved a biostar tforce4 sli and put it together.... amd opteron 2core, 7800gt, 1g corsair ddr400. So i put the whole thing together and install windows, update the drivers and windows updates the a few hours later the thing crashes! No power! wont turn on for anything. When power supply on I get the LED_5SB which means that system is ready for power on, but the 2nd LED_DIMM wont come on. I thought it might be my power supply since I am using an old 430W 20pin but when I replaced it with a 650W-24pin antec still the same thing, no power.
Any ideas?

When you post for hardware help, always list what you have. You got a lot of it listed, but what about the RAM? I am assuming you are using one in DIMM1 and one in DIMM2. If that is the case, pull the RAM out of DIMM2 and see if it boots. Could be a bad stick of ram.

If that does not work, carefully go through all your components and make sure everything is inserted and hooked up. Probably not the issue here, since you got windows on it.

Sorry, I misread your post. Tried to edit my first one, and either there is a delay or I am having some problems on my end.

But if you are using 2 sticks of ram, try what I posted before, if you are only using one, disregard that part of my post.

ya, 2 sticks, I moved them around used single only switched them ..... nothing

 

Well, looks like you have tried the obvious stuff. When you say crash, do you mean it war running and it shut down and won't boot or did you make any hardware changes and then it would not boot?

Well, looks like it is time to get primal on that PC! unplug your optical drives, hard drives, floppy (if you have one), any devices except the RAM, CPU, and video card. See if it goes any farther. Your computer will POST (Power On Self Test) without a hard drive. If it does POST, add one item you disconnected, and if it POSTS then, add another until it does not. Then we might have found the culprit.

If that does not work, I would say RMA time for the motherboard, but hopefully some other Geeks will stop by to help out!

well down to the bare bones and still nothing. so it is the board or the processor right? I am going to call biostar in the morning.

 

I would guess the mobo is bad, but it could be the CPU, but my guess is mobo RIP. Hopefully someone else will stop by ,and verify. I am not at your PC, so I would hate to tell you the mobo is dead and it wind up being something else. You do know the help here is free right?

But if it were my computer, I would replace the mobo.

ya, we will see what biostar has to say about it. It sucks because everything is brand new! I got it all from new egg but cant rma it there anymore cause I sent the mail in rebate this week. Oh well.... im sure biostar will be able to give some insight.... maybe

 

Try giving NewEgg a call, and explain the situation. You might be SOL, but they have hooked me up in the past. Heck, it is a toll free number.
