hi, hopinh someone can help me, i have this particular virus that even though i have done a full system restore to original factory image, wiping my hard drive clean, the viruses have persisted and have re-propagated

i am writing this post from the infected computer, which lets me do my work in safe mode with networking unless i try to install certain exe files.

then the worst of them kicks in which is a bluescreen virus that keeps acting like there's a hardware failure and saying: irql_not_less_or_equal when i try to run certain exe's.

also google hijack virus everytime i search it brings me to a new page...
sometimes it has done so automatically...

i've managed to run sophos rootkit...it found some exe files it said might be problems but said i shouldn't remove them... i looked up a few, saw they were reported by others as viruses and deleted those manually... the others were misc.exe and an msp file, so i wasn't sure i should delete them.

dr cure it, spynomore, malware antibytes, super antispyware all say nothing is wrong...despite the fact that these viruses persist.

i am on windows 7 on 64 bit machine, i tried downloading combofix, but i believe it isn't supposed to work for windows 7, and anyway, it keeps triggering the bluescreen whenever i try to install it.

    please help,
    thanks
    joseph

If you did a factory restore, you should have been clean. So the only thing I can think of is that you reinstalled some backup files that were not clean.

We need you to do the:
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

And then attach all the logs you can get. If Combo is causing a BSOD, skip it for now. But I would still like to see these logs:
    SAS
    MBAM
    C:\MGlogs.zip

And while you are at it, try to do this:
Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!

Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.

    • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
    • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123tdk.com).
    • Click the Start Scan button.
    • Do not use the computer during the scan
    • If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
    • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
    • Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
    • A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_14.17.05_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory ( usually Local Disk C ).
    • Attach this log to your next message

    hi, really funny...

after i posted this, i found tdsskiller on another howto and used it and walla, my pc seems to be working...

and now, i just logged in and saw you gave me the same advice, so i hope all is gone...

for some reason i have two logs for tdsskiller, i'm attaching both of them.

    thanks so much!!!

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...

    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message.

Ok, that did fix your MBR infection. I would still like to see the rest of the requested logs:
    SAS
    MBAM
    ComboFix
    C:\MGLogs.zip

    How are things running now?

i'm attaching super antispyware log, as to the others, it seems the logs are gone after i uninstalled the programs, i would have to re-install the programs and generate new logs...i uninstalled them because they were producing conflicts....i had umpteen anti spywares installed at once...

also, is combofix okay to install on windows 7 64 bit?

    thanks

ps...everything seems to be running pretty well... i sensed a bit of latency in the mouse response before. perhaps that's gone now... what i lost in all this has been these little graphics that would appear onscreen and tell me when i hit caps lock that my caps lock was on/off etc. they don't appear anymore

Combo will run on Win7 64bit. Mainly I want to see the Combo log if you can get one and the C:]MGLogs.zip.

You also should read this as far as securing your system:

Try using windows explorer to find and delete:
    c:\windows\system32\3228.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\4DA3.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\6162.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\D01A.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\AF71.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\46DF.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\D21E.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\36A9.tmp

Otherwise, I am not seeing any other malware on your system.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks. And you are most welcome. Do take heed of the "How to Protect Yourself" thread, keep SAS and MBAM for periodic scans. Have a good weekend!! :)
