Just over a year ago i purchased a HP 6100 omnibook, 2nd hand. Now i realise it was a big mistake.

Recently i have started utilising it more but am dissapointed to find out that i can not fully use it as the previous owner had put a bios lock on and i have no way of tracking him down.

I can't enable the built in modem (which i need soon when overseas) or the infared, just to name a few problems.

Can anyone help me???? can it be reset somehow????

The previous owner didn't do it, Hell-Piss did.

Ran into that on my old HP desktop. Propietary Asus motherboard. Apparently most BIOS options are locked to keep dummies from messing up their computer... or to give people like us a PITA.

I have heard that you can flash the BIOS, though I don't know if this will help, and I'm not entirely sure how to safely do this.

From what I read, other than flashing the BIOS (if that does indeed work), there isn't really anything you can do.

But I wouldn't give up. I just spent $45 on a new motherboard and trashed that propietary one. Voila, problem solved. Unfortunately, you can't do that... so I don't know what to tell you. :(

Just remove the battery for a few minutes and the lock is removed dont flash it not necessary that will do it.

XD Hell-Piss, I'll have to remember that one.
If you don't want to open it up and take out the battery, you could download a tool like Ultimate boot CD. I haven't tried the bios password tool on it but I assume it works.

Well since this is a lap top removing the cmos battery would prove to be a nice challenge so the only other simple way is to find the flash program from hp.

Unless this is a laptop... there is a jumper on the mother that will reset the BIOS. Get on Google and serach the MB Name. Then pull it for a few seconds and put it back on. The battery will work if you leave it out long enough.

the laptop is running windows XP.

In my desperation i have already opened the laptop up and removed a battery for about 30 mins but to no avail.

There are a couple other solutions to this method, one is the DEBUG command that you can actually use assembly to unlock the bios. This is my fun and preferred method.

But, the easy way is to use this:

Since the assembly way can cause issues if you mistype something. :)
