HELP!!!!!! My CD Rom has issues

This thing is driving me insane. It says the device is functioning properly. Yet, it wont burn more than 3 songs to a cd. When I try and run PC Doctor for it, it says there is no CD Rom drive. What is the deal????? Can anyone help me? I'm unsure as to whether I should try uninstalling and then re-installing. I'm running Win XP on a HP computer.

 

Well I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling. No difference. Go to burn a CD and as its closing the last track down it goes.

 

What software are you using to burn and what did you uninstall and re-install ???

 

I was using WMP to burn and I un installed and reinstalled the burner itsself.

 

Is the burner displayed in My Computer and in Device Manager?

 

What about the memory status and the location on the harddisk where files to be written are temporaly cached,usually on c.You need about 1gb free there.

 

It just says CD Drive?
