Hi guys , I need some help.My computer is acting up.I don't know what has caused it, but it won't show any icons, or tool bar, when I log in.If I boot up the computer, it goes to the login screen(windows XP).When I try to log in , it brings up my background , but nothing else.I can get into the programs and onto the net , by ALT,CTRL, DEL, and then selecting new task, etc.I have no idea where to start, and want to learn to fix this kind of problem myself, instead of paying the guys at my local shop. Thanks for any help you can give.

Sounds like your PC is not loading your Windows shell (explorer.exe is your shell) which is normally located in your Windows folder (C:\Windows or C:\Winnt depending on how you installed it). This could be due to many reasons many of which could be non-malware related.

From Task Manager, if you simply run explorer.exe does your Desktop show up?
