help needed about:blank

Let me start by saying that my system was infected with about:blank, spysheriff, coolsearch, homesearch assistant, shopping wizard and a few other nasties that all infected my computer today. My computer was fine before a friend started surfing certain ummm.. "adult" websites today!

Anyway, I followed all of the steps under the "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support" post.

Now it appears that I am only left with about:blank, and I have been totally unable to get rid of it by any of the methods outlined in various google searches.

I have saved the following logs: bitdefender online scan, panda online activescan, ccleaner log, and hijack this log. I can post them if it will assist in diagnosing/repairing my machine...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Did you look at Special Removal Procedures which is mentioned in the READ & RUN ME? And did you try the procedures for about:blank?

yes, I looked at that... I should have mentioned in my post that for some strange reason, I am not able to boot in safe mode. When I get to the boot menu, the keyboard is frozen so I am unable to select "start in safe mode".

The link you posted requires booting in safe mode

Step 5 of the READ & RUN ME also give you the below link to use another method of booting in safe mode. Did you try using it. How did you run the READ ME if you could not boot in safe mode. That should have already been mentioned. But you should have tried the below from step 5.

OH, I must have missed that... I did go through the steps, just not using safe mode.

Okay! If for some reason, you still cannot get into safe mode to run those about:blank fixes, just do the below.

Make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Thank you! About:Blank seems to be gone for now. My IE browser is now functioning normally... but I suspect that there may be something that I am over-looking. Can you please tell me if everything is OK with my hijackthis log?

Let's try this again:

Make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

You are not following those steps! You must follow our directions. When we tell you to click on links and check for updates etc, it is important that you do so. Otherwise, you may not be running the proper versions of software. For example, you are running HijackThis v1.98.2 which has not been used in a very long time. How many of the other items from the READ & RUN ME did you just assume you already had the correct version of???
