    Ok, no problem.

One thing I just saw was that there is a problem with the ghosted image that requires that we fix the mbr to get it to boot. That is why I had so many problems loading it up without third party software. Once we ghost the drive we want to fix that in one shot so we don't have to repeat all this noise. I'll work on getting recovery console on USB otherwise we can use Testdisk off of a USB. Just a heads up that you don't get frustrated and do anything too quickly once the drive is set up and imaged. It is fairly easy to fix just one more program that is difficult to get working off of a USB stick.

How much room do you have left on your Win7 HD? You need 3.65gb. You might be avle to temporarily change the space used for system restore or the recycle bin if you have them set as default.

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

And you don't want to run 7zip on the exe.

You want to make 3.82gb (actual amount) of space.
Run the exe to extract the GHO file.
I would save the exe to DVD as a data file for backup and then delete it.
Run 7zip on the .GHO making sure you use 1400M as the size of the pieces. Don't forget the M or you will get a million pieces.

Right-click to Recycle Bin and select Properties. How much space is it reserving for each drive? If you only use one partition C: it should be easy to change.

ok i extracted extract the GHO file to desktop, now i will put it 7 zip.

You will need another 3.72GB for the three 7z 001 002 003 files. I don't know how much space you have (if you turned off the recycle bin). You could burn the exe to DVD for safe keeping or delete it.

i burned the exe to DVD .i think i will have to go buy another usb stick like 8gb.im getting a external harddrive but not for a few weeks.

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

How much space do you need? Did you try turning off the recycle bin and restarting to see how much space you can get?

If you have a stack of DVDs around you could burn one more with the GHO file. Then delete the gho from HD and split it from CD to HD.

ok i ran it in 7 zip got 3 files but there are listed as s10e 7z .001 and 002 the other just says S10E.gho

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Change to details view and get the sizes. I am thinking you ran out of room and it didn't complete file 003.
    I have 001 =1433600
    002=1433600
    003=1037513

    the original large gho=3904713

this computor does not have linux on it.this is my main computor.if i get a big usb stick can i run 7z from that.

  17. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Hold on the S10e.GHO is the wrong size. Is that the file you extracted from the exe?

When you ran the exe the GHO file should have been the original large gho=3904713

  18. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

A larger USB stick would make things simpler but we should be ok.
You run the 3.55gb exe and get a 3.72 GHO file. Then you split the 3.72gb GHO file to 3 pieces totaling 3.72gb.

I thinking you may have a corrupt original GHO since yours is only showing a little more than 2.1gb.

    *******
Check to see if you have a GHO of 3904713 anywhere on your PC if not.
You could delete those three files (001,002, the gho that is 2,097,152 KB)
Run the exe from DVD and see if you get the proper size GHO file of 3904713
    Then split that.

Details view in Explore is in the list when you click the symbol 2 over from the help (?)

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

This program should give you a fast look at your hd to see if you have misplaced a large file.

  21. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

That file is not the right size so it can be deleted along with part 001 and 002 since it won't work. You did burn the exe to DVD? It should have been 3.55gb. If it was the correct size then it should still work and you can try the extraction again to get a 3.72gb gho file.

im going to get a usb,i have no idea where all my room went?be back later.my kid has one that way i can move stuff from the computor to the usb to save room thanks be back.

  23. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

If you get a larger USB there will be no need to split the files. We can just put ghost and the GHO file on the usb. And be done with it. 7z is just away of getting around the 2gb USB stick.

But we have to get the proper size GHO file out of the exe. It may have just quit when it ran out of room but it should have given a warning, I would think.

well do it tommorrow....thanks,im redownloading it but its really slow.im only getting 7.4kb download speed it says 4 days...lol is there a fileserve for this.

I don't know where else to get it. My there aren't many people seeding. Try allowing DHT and see if it helps. I have the file but am not connected to any peers.

Double check the DVD that you wrote with the exe. How big is the exe?

i didnt i burned the iso. its faster now ,will be done in 4 hours.thanks for not getting to frustrated with me.i only have a 40 gb hard drive but i really dont know where all the room went.

So this morning you ran the S10e Ghost Image.exe and then deleted it? I don't care I was just making sure before you re-downloaded.

    pongo Staff Sergeant

can i download it on the computor running linux ,even though thats the computor we will be trying to get xp in.because theres tons of room.

  29. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

I had thought about that but because you are downloading and exe, it won't run on linux. You have to run the exe to decompress the GHO file.

How much space do you have on Windows PC after deleting the 2.1gb copy of the GHO file and the 001 and 002 files?

Actually, I'm testing decopmpressing it with 7zip and it seems to be working. This may be an option.
But I would create a FAT32 partition on the laptop and of course you will have to set up bitorrent on the linux. but if you want to try I can give you the instructions for creating the partition. You will have to do it anyway.

You will need Gparted on USB from sourceforge in the zip file. (Linux Mint won't let you edit the partition it is on)

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpa...ble/0.7.0-4/gparted-live-0.7.0-4.zip/download (125mb Sorry!)
Format a USB drive to Fat32. (Rightclick on the drive letter in Computer and select quick format and fat32).
So download the file and extract it to your USB drive. (right-click the gparted zip file and select extract and point to the USB drive letter)
Go to Start/Orb type in cmd when search finds cmd.exe, right click it and select Run as Administrator.
Then type the letter of your USB drive with a colon and <enter> ie. f:, or g: etc.
You will get a prompt showing that letter.
    type in CD utils <enter>
    type in Cd win32 <enter>
    type in makeboot.bat <enter>
Follow the instructions in the window that opens and close it after you get confimation that the drive is made bootable.

Then boot from the USB in the laptop. You can just hit <enter> on all the text screens until it opens up gparted. Find your large linux

partition and right-click it and select Resize/Move. In the window that opens put 10000 (ten thousand)in the box for free space after. Click

Resize button at bottom of window. Click Apply. Click ok to warnings.

When it is done and gparted refreshes the window. You need to rightclick the new 10gb unallocated space and click New . Set the size to 10000 (10 thousand) and the filesystem to FAT32. Click Add. Click Apply.

You should have a large linux partiton and a 10gb FAT32 partion when gparted refreshes. You can reboot into linux.

    Any questions ask.

I just finished unzipping the exe with 7z and it worked. I tested the integrity of the image with Ghost and it passed so I think it will be fine to download on the laptop.
