Ok start regular linux and go to gparted.

Right click the unallocated space and select New. Change the format to FAT32. Click Add. Window closes. You should see a pending operation at the bottom half of the window.. Click Apply button. I think it should work ok. Let me know if you need keyboard commands.

*My internet is spotty from linux or maybe my ISP but I am having a lot of cutouts. So it may take a while to reply sometimes.

Good. Do you have all 3 7z files on your Desktop? If so double click the brown one and in the window that opens click extract.

    ****
Everything looks good. You can click computer icon on your desktop and you should see the 9.77gb drive.

    pongo Staff Sergeant

ok i extracted it.i see 10gb filesystem on my desktop....should i send it to my computor.

  10. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

The 10gb drive on the desktop is just a shortcut. It is already in computer.

Double click the 10gb on desktop it should open an empty window. drag s10e.gho into the window. It should copy the file.

Ok. On to the next fun. I just realized that a Windows USB stick may have trouble finding your SATA HD. But we won't know until we try. I think a change in BIOS settings will make it visible if necessary.

So download this zip and follow directions in the ReadMe.txt. It is several steps so any problems ask.

ok all looks good at the moment

Look in the drop down box for your 10gb drive. (Ihope it shows up--let me know if you can't get to the 10gb drive)
Select the drive and you should see the GHO file. Select it and hit ok.
    We'll go from there.

    ok done.

  19. pongo

    pongo Staff Sergeant

    image file passed intergity check

    should i hit continue

  20. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Yes. Should take you back to the main menu.

    Select Local>Disk>From Image
Select the drive letter of the 10gb drive from the drop down box at the top. You should then see your GHO file so choose it.
Select destination drive is your HD about 79gb.
You will get a warning about the destination drive containing the GHO file. Click to delete the file after imaging. Preserving will not work.
You can go with default sizes for the layout.
Should only take a few minutes to ghost the drive. Click (I think it is reset computer meaning reboot)

When done ghosting the drive may or may not boot. (Probably depending on the drive size). If it doesn't boot We will use Test disk to fix the MBR. It is contained on this USB stick. I'll give you instructions if the drive won't boot with the USB out.

    pongo Staff Sergeant

how do i Select destination drive is your HD about 79gb?

i select 2.2 fat drive then the s10e GHO size-3,998,425,790 if i right click on that,i get select local destination drive.

drive sizeMB type cylinders heads sectors

    1 1928 basic 245 255 63

    2 76319 basic 9729 255 63

After you click the se10.gho file you will get a window like below asking for the destination drive. It should contain just the USB 2gb drive and the 79gb HD. Either mouse to the 79gb drive or tab to it and select OK. What do you see?

You might need to use TAB and arrows to select the 76319mb drive.

    It would be drive 2.

ok i selected this drive 76319mb drive.got another window destination drive.JUST dont want to go ahead without your ok and mess it all up...lol

  25. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

I'm not sure where you are? Are you at destination drive details?

  26. pongo

    pongo Staff Sergeant

    proceed with disk restore?
destination drive will be permantly overwritten

    yes or no.

  27. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

If you are sure you selected the 76319mb drive click yes. If you want to double check hit No and it will take you back to the main window and you can do it again.

Come to think about it. As long as you got the destination drive warning you can be sure you selected the right drive.

    continue or reset computer

  36. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Should take about 5 minutes. You will get some screens to exit (I think something about reset the computer or continue. I guess to be certain you can select Continue which will take you back to the main menu and you can select Quit)

Back at the command prompt C:/ghost you can just remove the USB and Cntl+Alt+Del to restart the computer. You will get either a Windows PreInstallation Environment which will set up the drive or a blinking cursor or other error like strike f1 to retry. If it is a blinking cursor or error we have to use testdisk to fix the MBR.

ok i hit contuine the took me to menu screen select quit. restarted and just get blinking cursor.

Ok. give me 10 minutes to write down the steps for test disk. I know it works I've done it before but I can't find a set of screens that match what I had to do. I'll be back.

Not too bad I was remembering running it from the Gparted CD.

    Start from the USB.
If the USB starts at C:/ as before then type (you are not typing <enter> that just means hit enter key):
    cd test <enter>
    testdisk <enter>

    Create is highlighted hit <enter>
Select Media give choices of drives. Choose the 80gb drive using arrow keys to highlight it and then <enter>
    Intel is highlighted hit <enter>
Analyse is highlighted use arrow keys down to highlight MBR Code <enter>
Write a new copy of MBR to first sector? (y/n) type Y and <enter>

I did not type Y this time so I can't say exactly what the next screen says but probably something like MBR was written you will have to restart to apply changes. Let me know what the choices are. You basically want to quit testdisk and exit.

Can you quit the ghost screen? If not try restarting with the USB again. It is quirky. I get different screens each time.

If you still have the problem I guess we can change one of the files.
