If you haven't gotten sound working this looks like the sound driver folder from the GHO file. You could download it and try running setup to see if any change. http://www.mediafire.com/?zsn71w1r8yvr2rr

The reason I mentioned it was they had the fix I was talking about in that folder kb888111xpsp2.exe so maybe it is relevant.

It's in this folder 4GFDY6A_\4GFDY6A_\MSHDQFE\Win2K_XP\us\kb888111xpsp2.exe but you shouldn't need it if you are SP3.

I was also hoping something in the WDM folder might be executed by that setup routine. You could click on a couple of the executables to see if they do anything. maybe alcwzrd.exe?

I'll search around for specific model trouble but I just don't understand why the drivers from the website wouldn't work. Is there nothing in Control Panel>Sounds?

*I'll also put my last commercial here about considering re-imaging the HD. We had the MBR right so I think it may just have been a faulty run of the install. At least consider deleting the 3 7z files on your PC and re-splitting the original image file and then moving and putting the pieces back together on the laptop and storing the GHO there just in case you run into unforeseen trouble later.

You are more than welcome. :)

A simple post in the drivers section may be helpful. I know Halo and a few others know their stuff on drivers. It is almost always RealTek drivers that have problems and they probably have seen it all.

I'll let you know if I think of anything. Post back if you solve it so I can check it off my list.

    Good Luck!

    this may help..

i ran a program called unknown device identifier 7.00

    it shows 1 in red

standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller(unknown device)

I think in Unknown Devices it gives you a number like: VEN_8086&DEV_2560&SUBSYS_01601028&REV_01 for each device which helps search for the device with google. Do you see anything like that for the device?

You might also try following the directions for posting an Everest Report in this post http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1566224&postcount=2

There might be something of interest in the Everest Report as it gives the same sort of information.

After 410 posts, has anyone heard of the term "flogging a dead horse" yet?

I don't mean to be rude, but , isn't enough, enough?
