    Hi,
Have some problems with my computer in the last week or so. i believe i have been infected in some kind of malware when trying to open a Geodata file.
I noticed the problem while trying to uninstall my antivirus & install a new one, which i requested help in the software forum[http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=167083].

The trouble was that i couldn't install a new anti virus , an got an error message: "Service 'Eset Services' (ekrn) failed to start
verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
The reason i want to replace the anti virus was because my AVG had disabled the e-mail scanner & i didnt succeed to enable it.

since then , i have tried to go over the RUN FIRST manual, & didn't succeed to complete the SUPERAntiSpyware process. it runs ok but after reboot windows can not boot & a blue screen is shown & restarts again (& i can not start safe mode as well).
SpyBot also didnt work for me - i get an error that saays that it is not a valid win32 application, the same for combofix.

Also i can not run windows restore, i looks like it is running but it completes by saying that no changes has been made.

any ideas & help will be appreciate,
    Cheers.

Please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work
    .
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Drivers::
    hldrrr
    SROSA

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "drvsyskit"=-

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000\LogConf]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000\Control]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\srosa]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\srosa\Enum]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000\LogConf]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000\Control]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\srosa]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\srosa\Enum]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000\LogConf]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\srosa]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Tell me how that went and run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from ComboFix ( assuming it worked).

download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Hi,
i have run the avenger.exe but after reboot windows does not load.
It gets to the windows screen but then either have a blue error screen or it just restart over & over.
I can't load safe mode from before so it seemd i am getting less options to go with.
Should i use my Ghost recovery to a week back (still with the infection) & start all proccesses over or is there something that can be done with the windows recovery console?

Thanks for your time & help.
    Cheers

Hummm....yes, do the ghost recovery if that is the only option you have. Once you have done that...try doing a system restore to before you got infected.

You may need to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

Just understood that there was a missing section in the folder options. meaning that i didnt have the show hidden files option.
i have fixed it & now it is there.

do you think this will help in any way?

I am confused now.....I thought you couldn't load windows. Are you saying that you are up and running again?
Please tell me exactly what is happening.

    Windows is up,
after running the avenger.exe i was unable to load windows so i did a sysatem recovery bu norton ghost. however the recovery point is one week back to a point where i still have this trouble.

after i recovered to taht point, i tried to work the instruction for the system restore and it did not solve the restore problem.

so now i have windows running like the begining of the post but my anti virus has a feature disabled & i cant install a different anti virus, there are some programs i can load (like spybot that i get an error that says "not a valid win32 application"), i cant load safe mode & i cant use system restore.

regarding the hidden files, i just understood that there is a maleware that just hidded that option from me, & i know solved that issue, & now can see this option.

Can you run MGTools and get me the C:\MGLogs.zip?

    Can you run ComboFix?

Can you do any of the Read and Run instructions?

    Hi,
Thanks again for your time & help. i think there is starting to be a bright light (well, i hope so...).

I tried going over from the begining on the READ & RUN.
After the SUPERANTISPYWARE rebooted, windows encounter an error & could'nt load. it seemed like the same problem as before. however i tried loading windows with last working configuration & it uploaded & after that & 2 runs of spyware terminator i stop recieving messages about the maleware.

In the message previous to the last scan i encounered trojan alerts in files such : hkdrr.exe , srosa.sys.
From here on it looked that things are going better.
    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware didn't find anything.
I was now able to re-install & run spybot (before i got the not a valid win32 application). in the spybot scan i got a warning of - win32.Bagle.hi.
I also was able to run Combofix, again a run that i could'nt run before.

I would appreciate it if you could take a look on the MGTools log files, to see if all is good.
also if it is, should i continue with the toogle system restore as mentioned in the READ & RUN?

Here is a post i found that seemed to me very similiar to what i have encountered: http://www.siusic.com/wphchen/hard-to-kill-malware-wintems-exe-and-hldrrr-exe-143.html

    Again, Thanks for your help.
    Cheers

Done the combo fix & the getlogs.bat

My computer seems to back on its feet, & seems to work ok.
issues from before that got me to the forum are now working.

Programms that could't run & i got the "not a valid win32 application" mesasges are now running ok.

I can load windows in safe mode (all scans in safe mode result in no threats).

    I can do windows restore.

    I have successfuly re-installed my AVG anti-virus.

Thanks again for all you time & help.
Is there any thing else i should do?

    Cheers

That driver is still showing in your logs....arrrggghh.

Let's try avenger in safe mode:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:
    Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself to normal mode.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Hi,
I assumed you were referring to avenger - http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger2/avenger2.html.

    am i correct?

i run the avenger under safe mode, after the reboot i had 2 blue screens on windows load, only on the third try windows reloaded ok.

Also , in the past day i keep getting an threat detected message from my AVG anti-virus that finds a threat in one of the restore folders.

Yes I was....and it fortunately did not find any of the files or the driver...so that is good.

If AVG is only finding files in the system restore files.....also very good.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
