help...new just plain lost

Hi,
I'll just dive in...clue me in if i'm in wrong place. I have 2 cd-rw samsung-sw-232/asus-crw-5224A . the samsung opens when I bootup and will fight to stay open, 6-7 times to close and stay closed. running w2k, amd 2400xp, 1gb mem, 2hdd, FX5700, not really sure what info you need or where to find it but am more than willing to look if you tell me where to look

 

i have had an abit and gigabyte motherboard that both show this symptom,later bios releases so called fixed the problem but not for me,they still open upon boot,mine closed on one press,but it can be different with other drives,I would check for bios updates.good luck.

 

Here's a little tip from experience , try changing the Master/Slave jumpers on your Roms. Switch off computer and pull the power lead out of computer. Ground yourself by touching a sink tap etc.Open the side of case and unplug the power and ribbon leads and unscrew the CD/RW's , Draw them out and look at the rear of them and you will see a little plastic (jumper) that goes across 2 contacts, look at the bottom of the Cd's and you will see printed there CS/SL(slave) MA(master) change these around ie, what was master make Slave, and what was Slave make master, reconnect and screw back in , power up and see if that works. P.S. When you connect the ribbon to the CD/RW's make sure the connection at the end of ribbon goes to the 'Master' and the middle connector to the 'Slave'...
