The PXE error message means that the PC is trying to boot to a network; that's why it says 'check cable'. Enter your PC's BIOS and take 'Boot from LAN' or maybe 'Boot to network' out of the boot order. Personally, I have the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device, and the HD as the second boot device, and 3rd and 4th boot devices are disabled. Try uninstalling the DVD drive from the device manager, rebooting the PC, and letting Windows reload the drivers. That should help. If not, you may need a decoder (and codecs). Visit the Multimedia section here at MajorGeeks, download a codec pack (there's a bunch of good ones: KLite and Codec All-In-One are good) and a media player (VLC is popular; I like GOM and Kantaris also). Install the downloads, reboot, and try the DVD player again, using one of the media players.... good luck, and keep us posted!
