Help on video cards

All my friends recommend the Nvidia Geforce 6800 ultra OC, but I see alot of other oc's that are even better. Plus the Nvidia Geforce 6800 ultra OC is very expensive. What video card should I buy?

 

No need to buy OC model, that just means it has slight factory Overclock.
Save your money buy a none OC model then Overclock it your self using Rivi-tuner or similar utility

What interface do you have AGP or PCI-e?
Whats your budget?

 

Choosing a GPU can be such a headache. I have recently composed my first PC (applause) and I have choosen the Ati X1600Pro. Just when I am getting to enloy it I read in a magazine that nVidia 7600GS, that has similar cost to mine, is far better. Are nVidia cards actually better than Ati cards? I would apreciate it if your response is honest beyond any stakes.

 

I personally like Nvidia a lot more than i do ati. To be honest with you, it really doesn't matter cause they both will do what you want them to do. In my opinion it's kind of like comparing vehicles. You can buy a GMC Yukon or you can buy a Cadillac Escalade. Same thing with different names. They perform the same and cost just about the same. In the future, with amd buying ati we might just see a big difference in cards due to the fact that a processor company will be able to design a cpu built for a certain chipset and a specific brand of video card. ATI. Just what you prefer when it comes down to it.
