Hi all, first post in a while but I really need help and advice.

I built a PC last month having not had one for a few years, and now it's all together a friend told me I should look into OC'ing my CPU as th e6300 1.86Ghz core 2 duo is very OCable. I have read a lot of guides online and would just like some advice as some options in my bios are a bit vague. Here are some details of my system.

    Mainboard...
    Manufacturer : Elitegroup Computer Systems
    Model : 945P-M3
    Chipset : intel i945p Rev. A2
    Southbridge : intel 8801GB (ICH7/R)
    LPC10 : ITE IT8712

    Bios...
    Brand : Pheonix Technologies
    Version : 6.00PC
    Date : 02/02/2007

    CPU : Core 2 Duo 6300 @ 1.86GHz (266x7)
temp when idle is 28 degrees
temp under load is 44 degrees

My problem is my bios options are thus ...

    Frequency / Voltage Control

    Autodetect PCI Clk [Enabled]
    /Disabled
    Spread Spectrum [Enabled]
    /Disabled
    CPU CLOCK [266MHz]
    /Key in a DEC number (min 266 max 510)

    I have an ATI HD4770 512DDR5 PCI-ex graphics card and 2 gig DDR2 800 ram.
I read that as long as the PCI-ex clock is not increased along with the FSB the card will be fine. What steps should I take to just increase the CPU, hopefully to 2.5GHz, but without damaging my RAM or Graphics Card. :confused

    Thanks
    Van

There are no DDR options in my bios, but does the CPU FSB setting mean that an increase will only apply to the processor, or will this increase the PCIe and DDR clocks as well? And what does SPREAD SPECTRUM and AUTODETECT PCI CLOCK change?

Hello there, i know someone who got his C2D 6300 to 3.2Ghz. He has Custom water cooling and is a hardcore techy, i'll ask him if he can make a simple guide for you, but he has a different MB. He may be away though as he is a serving member of the PARA's.

    Leave it with me.

Maybe it would be less stressfull to buy an e6600. I want to be able to run Dawn of War II and Starcraft II smoothly, and I think the only thing stopping me would be my CPU speed.

Make sure that your board supports it, most likely does, but also is the 2.4GHz the minimum specs needed to run the game or recommended as minimum specs just gives you a bad experience. Your video card is also very important, make sure of the specs before you buy anything.
