help PLEASE! at the end of my tether...

    i don't know alot about computers but ours got a virus (i couldnt tell you what it is as i can no longer get into the system)
    but the long and short of it is nothing was loading on the desktop, couldnt get any icons so booted into safe mode to have a look at it.
    since logging out i cant get back into it. all i get in safe mode once i've gone into the admin section is a black screen with safe mode in 4 corners. i cant get the task manager open, i cant even log off as its asking for an administrators password and nobody knows what it is??
    i was going to a system repair but we werent provided with a disc and dont know anybody that has one...
    i dont know much about the actual computer as i use my laptop, but i think its windows xp, it says on safemode: build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920 service pack 1
    i dont know if that means anything?
    could anybody PLEASE help me? it's not even my computer but i'm being made responsible and it's causing hellish arguments in my house. i'm about to burn the thing!!!!

    just to add to my previous post i remember what the new files were, they were:

    s87ekhv.exe

    ftpdll.dll

    and

    windrv.exe

    any help would be much appreciated, thankyou again

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    If you cannot boot in normal and cannot run anything from safe boot mode then there is nothing we can do for you. Have you tried using different user accounts if you have others? Have you tried using the Administrator user account in safe boot mode?

    Your other options could be to:
    1. try last know good configuration.
    2. put the infected hard disk into another properly protected PC as a slave drive and run some scans on the infected drive in an attempt to clean it.
    3. tools like http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page may be of use but are outside the scope of this forum to work you thru the details of making the CD and using it.
