Help Please! Norton 2004 Removal

To anyone that can help me please

My pc has a trial norton 2004 and now after the trial period has lapsed im getting prompts to renew every 2min and cant turn off!

I would be perfectly happy just getting rid of norton but although i can find where the program files are located, there seems to be no uninstaller.

I did some research which recommended using add/remove programs but only the liveupdates program is listed.

I think the problem could be because my pc was sold to me with XP packaged onto the system and maybe along with norton, which is why it doesnt come up under add/remove programs?

can anyone help? would be much appreciated!

found a little tool called symnt.exe which seems to have done the trick! system seems to be running much quicker as well now. Can you recommend any free security/protection? a friend of mine mentioned AVG?
