I bought a used laptop Dell latitude C600 with no hard drive. I just installed a new hard drive alright. When power on I got this message: "This computer system #xxxxxx-xxxx, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.
Please type in the primary or administrator password and press <enter>.
***I contact Dell support center and they gave me passcode to use. I had the tech support on the phone but we couldn't do it to work. the keyboard was not working and unable to enter the passcode... I have disconnected the battery and power but didn't work. **Can any geeks out her help me?

    Hi ya kristoga...

    If you haven't already tried...
Look for a jumper on the motherboard (PW on off, reset...)
    Or similar.
    Some motherboards have this feature.

    Otherwise...
You may have to keep the battery out for an extended period of time.
Also a couple of proper sized coins inserted and left in the battery socketfor a bit can short out and remove any residual voltage within the bios memory.

    Hi PCjinx,
I tried that and it did not work. By the way this is laptop and it did not have the coin type battery. Thanks for your help. Any more ideas?

you could try to go to the bios and checked the security section and disable password option.

Find the CMOS battery and unplug it for like a minute or so. While it's removed push a bunch of buttons on the keyboard to make sure and get the power in the capacitors to release. That might help. Also take the keyboard out and clean it really good with some canned air.

This may be useless, but give Dell another call and see if a different tech person is more helpful. You never know you might get lucky.

Try contacting the seller and see what they can tell you. Was the hard drive new??? Also, I know with some Toshiba laptops, there's a little device you can make from an old printer cable, that when plugged into the parallel port will wipe out all passwords in the BIOS. It's a backdoor built in by Toshiba. I don't know if Dell has a similar thing but it may be worth researching. I'll do some research too...

OK- I did a little bit of research. Apparently, there's a way to unlock the PC by using the service tag number (look for a sticker on the bottom). I've provided some links here; one is a link to forum where a bunch of people have the same problem, and what they did to fix it. There's some good info in there and some links too. The other link below is to a page where you can download a CD .iso image or floppy boot program or something similar that will assist in removing the passowrd. There's also a .pdf file for download that I guess shows pictures of exactly what to do. BE CAREFUL with the downloads! I have NOT tested them so I cannot vouch for their validity or safety. I Googled 'latitude c600 password removal'.... try something similar and you'll find some good info. Also; there's a bunch of places that will unlcok the PC for $10-$20, so you might want to look into that as well. Again, BE CAREFUL with the downloads... the .pdf should be OK.... good luck!

I have collected all the informations above and will try them one by one and as soon as I find a cure to my symptoms, I will publish it here. Thank you Geeks.
