    Hi,

After doing a complete clean install of windows 2000 I am having problems with popups. I finally managed to get all available updates and service packs from microsoft. I have run all the scans on your read me page. I also ran some of the special removal tools such as Vundo Fix. I will attach the logs. Some of the pop ups that I am getting are (or were): Broadcaster.com System Protect and Win antivirus. Every thing else seems to be ok but avg and avgas are still finding things. Thank you for your help.

Why didn't you let AVG Antispyware fix what it found?

You did not do step 2 of the READ & RUN ME and as a result you have the HijackThis executable named with double exe extensions.

    You have this: C:\HJT\analyse.exe.exe

    It should be: C:\HJT\analyse.exe

Until you do step 2 properly (you will not even notice this). Part of my registry patch is going to do step 2 for you anyway.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Continue by downloading two tools we will need

    - Process Explorer

    - Pocket KillBox

Extract them to their own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate them later.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)
Also make sure that one and only one Internet Explorer browser is opened up

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of cbxvv.dll once and then click the kill button. After you have killed all of the cbxvv.dll under winlogon click ok. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    wvursro.dll

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of cbxvv.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    wvursro.dll

Next double click on iexplore.exe and again click once on each instance of cbxvv.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    wvursro.dll

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {71E4BBE0-A4C3-4B11-8768-AF8F300B4BC6} - C:\WINNT\system32\cbxvv.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BCF44CCA-EF00-4DEE-B23D-C09932FAD80F} - C:\WINNT\system32\hgdcd.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CAA68601-44C8-40A3-A1D9-FE538BE9DD4B} - C:\WINNT\System32\wvursro.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E03C740E-BB24-4d3c-B92A-6F84DE1DD99C} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: cbxvv - C:\WINNT\system32\cbxvv.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvursro - C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\wvursro.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
    • select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    • Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
    • Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINNT\system32\cbxvv.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\ssqrppo.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\wvursro.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\vrtonfgl.ini
    C:\WINNT\system32\vvxbc.ini
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folder and delete if found:
    C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Hi Chaslang,

Have done all of your steps and everything seems to be working fine now. Well that I know of anyway. Everything ran as it should including Killbox no errors. I haven't had a popup yet and even start up seems quicker. Am attaching logs as you requested. Is everything all good now? Thank you so much for your help.

No not yet! It looks like you did not run Pocket Killbox properly. You must make sure to follow the steps exactly. It looks like you never told it to delete anything.

First look in Add/Remove programs for VSAdd-in for Internet Explorer and uninstall if found. Tell me what happens.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {46A4E9D9-B30E-452A-8157-DBBEC8573B03} - C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in\VSAdd-in.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D38439EC-4A7F-42b4-90C2-D810D7778FDD} - C:\WINNT\system32\pcjdffir.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: &VSAdd-in - {74DD705D-6834-439C-A735-A6DBE2677452} - C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in\VSAdd-in.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    C:\WINNT\system32\vwotmaka.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\pcjdffir.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\rrhobkdy.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\ssqrppo.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\wvursro.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\vrtonfgl.ini
    C:\WINNT\system32\vvxbc.ini
    C:\WINNT\system32\ydkbohrr.ini
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Vsaddin won't uninstall. It just doesn't let me click remove button???? Do you still want me to do the HJT and pocket killbox. And just so you know I did exactly what you told me to and when I clicked the delete button pocket killbox said it was verrifying the registry and did a 10 sec countdown then rebooted. Also I noticed that the only file that it showed in the path line after copying was the cbxvv.dll. Thanks

Yes continue on and we will come back to it.

Well it did not show up in the c:\!Killbox backup folder and neither did any of the others and they are still on your PC. Thus something went wrong somewhere. If necessary, enter them one at a time into Killbox and just don't say yes to reboot until the last one has been entered.

Ok my bad I didn't go to file and copy from clipboard last time sorry just did the right click on the file path. So that seemed to work fine now what about the vsaddin in control panel? Thanks again

    Okay that looks better!

Side note: when working on removing malware problems you should never install anything else on your PC while still actively working with someone on your malware problems. That is unless we request you install it. You have installed some new items just today since your last logs (like Rainlendar2 for one). It makes unexpected changes to your system and logs and makes it more difficult for us to keep track of what is going on.

Also this SearchToolbarCorp just showed up. It is probably related to your VSAdd-in problem but it is strange that it just showed up now. I need to finish looking at your logs. Be back in a few minutes.

Sorry wasn't thinking how it would effect you.

I had found the search tool bar corp in one of the many scans i did i cant remember which one but it told me to delete it so i did. I guess it is back now. Thanks

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Now locate the below folders and delete them if found:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Tanya\Application Data\SearchToolbarCorp
    C:\Program Files\VSToolbar

Now run this Getting Uninstall Programs List From The Registry and attach the log as requested below

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. ShowNew
    2. C:\GetUnKey.txt from the new procedure above
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Ok the Search Toolbar Corp folder was back I deleted it. But there was no VSToolbar in C:program Files. I ran Getun and it worked fine. Will now attach logs. Things seem to be working fine.

Okay one more step and we may have everything removed!

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now attach a hopefully final ShowNew log! VSAdd-in for Internet Explorer should be gone now.

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
