You may need to access the BIOS and disable onboard video. What make and model computer is it? Do you a manual for the motherboard?

    What do the instructions say?

when ive done it, the BIOS automatically disabled the onboard but i guess it doesnt hurt to check it manually as well

It depends on the motherboard. With some, onboard video is automatically disabled when an add-on video card is installed. With others, disabling onboard video in the BIOS is necessary.

Its a dell diminsion 2350.. and I have no idea what kind of motherboard it has, nor do I have the manual...but I do no it has an onboard right now.

the instructions that came with the new card make it seem like all i have to do is take out the old card and put the new one in.. but I dont think that that will work for an onboard.
    Thanks for all your help!

srmjdm, I provided a link for info on disabling onboard video. Have you not read it? Perhaps you should visit http://www.dellcommunity.com/, since you have a Dell. I'm sure someone there can advise you on disabling onboard video for your specific model.

ok.. so I disabled the onboard graphics.. changed the bios from onboard to auto (the only other choice I had) and i uninstalled the onboard driver, Installed the new video card, installed the drivers, updated teh drivers, seems to be working fine.

EXCEPt for every time I restart the computer.. the system finds new hardware.. the onboard graphics chip.. how can I make it quit seeing this??

    Thanks for all the help

i did disable it and there were 2 showing.. that one and my new one.
but everytime I turn my computer on it finds new hardware and wants to update it. It being the onboard graphics. is there somewhere else I need to remove it from?

I put in a nvidia geforce4 mx 4000, i didnt want to spend too much money on it.. and I didnt want to invest in a new power supply.

I'm a bit skeptical that you made right change in the BIOS. Did you visit the Dell forum I mentioned in my previous post?

I see your video card is a PCI card: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2350/specs.htm#1101572 . Your computer does not have an AGP slot, right?

I did visit the dell community you linked in your previous post,

no my computer does not have a agp slot.. only the 3 pci slots.
