help please

ok guys i gave one of my laptops to a "computer guy" lol. he was supposed to reload windows for me because my computer crashed instead of fixing it he gave it back to me after he completely wiped the hard drive. i tried to reinstall xp from disk but it wont let me load from disk just keeps saying no os found. what do i need to do so i can get it running?

 

You have to get it to boot from the CD/DVD drive first, rather than the hard disk. You do this in one of two ways -

As the machine starts you get messages from the BIOS, such as F2 or DEL for Setup, F8 for Boot Options, maybe others too. Take the Setup option if you can, and in the BIOS screen that appears use the arrow keys to select Boot. Hitting Enter allows you to set which device is to be the first boot device, and set that to your CD/DVD drive. Reboot with the XP disk in the drive.

Or, if you see Boot Options, take that and use the arrow keys to select the CD drive. Enter and reboot with XP CD in drive.
