    Hi there! :D

I'm having a virus related issue. My problems started on Oct. 24th between 10:30-11:30 PM, mountain time. I was trying to get a hold of a single episode of a TV show that I missed, and after I opened the file, a box popped up asking me if I'd like to install a codec to watch it. At the time, for some reason, even though I usually don't do it, I didn't think anything of it. However, since then, my computer and internet both have been slowed down. I also have multiple Windows processes running where I previously only had 3 max. For example, SVChost.exe is now running 11 times at all times, and it used to only run 2-3. Conhost is also running 2-4 times, depending on when I look at it, and it used to only run once. My internet redirects if I try going to a link outside of a web page that's in my bookmarks. This made it quite difficult when looking for a solution to my issue.
Whatever issue this is, it is no longer showing up on ANY virus or spyware scans. It used to, but I used the programs to fix them, and since I did, I'm still having the issues, but nothing shows up anymore. I believe one of the files was called Rowena, but I can't be sure, as I deleted the logs as per instructed.
I followed the instructions word for word provided by the READ ME thread on this forum, neither SAS or Anti Malware returned any results. Combo fix would not run. A box popped up and asked me if I would like to run it, I hit 'run' and nothing happened. I waited for a while, and then looked under the task manager to see if it was trying to run in the background or something, but it didn't appear anywhere.
Root repeal would not run either. I kept getting error messages as follows:
    12:34:47: FOPS - DeviceIoControl Error! Error Code = 0xc0000024 Extended Info (0x00000130)
    12:34:47: DeviceIoControl Error! Error Code = 0x1e7
    12:34:47: FOPS - DeviceIoControl Error! Error Code = 0xc0000024 Extended Info (0x00000130)

As instructed, I will attach the logs from the other three programs; Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, it's quite frustrating.

    Thanks

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

Now rename combofix.exe to magpie.com and try and run it again, if normal mode proves problematic despite the rename then reboot into safe mode and try and run it that way.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Thanks for the quick response! Combo fix had issues running the first time, it ran and then froze for more than 10 hours or so, so I restarted and ran it in safe mode, and it went just fine.
TDSS Killer made two logs for some reason, so I will attach those and then attach the MGlog in the next post.

That seems to have cleared things up! :)

How are things running now? I suspect I can give you final steps soon.

Things are running very well, from what I have seen thus far. I've had no more redirects, and the system isn't as laggy as it was. Thanks a lot! :-D

    You're welcome. Safe surfing! :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
