help please

    My pc wont recognise my dvd +/- writer i have a normal dvd player as a master and dvdwriter as slave the trouble started about 2 months ago it was fine upto then so i went out and bought a new dvdwriter and it still says the same thing that it is a dvd so i tried running it as a master and not connecting the dvd player and it still says the same thing it will not make back up copys or allow me put files on to blank cd/dvds from my harddrive any suggestions please be gentle im still learning

    Did you set the jumpers on the back of the drive correctly? Welcome to MG

    definatly check what steve said above and also a few things to check are...

    1. Does the Bios list the DVD writer
    2. Check Device Manager and see if its listed under DVD/CD rom drives ... even if it is delete it and reboot and allow the OS to pickup th enew hardware again.
    3. Change the IDE cable for a new or spare one
