    Hi all,

Have some sort of a trojan which is driving me nuts!

    Trojan.dwnldr.BON

I managed to do a complete BitDefender online scan & AdAware, SpyBot which helped in the removal of most of the components but haven't been able to eliminate the following "rogue" files:-

    stonedrv.exe
    rpcc.exe

Am using a VAIO laptop AMD Athlon 1800+ 521MhZ 256MB Ram
    Using Win XP

Another problem is that the trojan seems to have diabled my NAV AutoProtect. Have got ZoneAlarm Firewall in place so have some protection.

Please help! I've got my HJT log here and can post once requested.

    Many thanks in hope!

    Cheers

Am attaching text files of reports from online scans and HJT to support my original message. Hope that's acceptable? Apologies if not.

Panda located over 28 infections but how do I rid the system of them?

    Thanks in antiipation people....

    Cheers

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Apologies and will attempt to follow the soutine however at the moment everything or anything I download and TRY to install comes back with the MS error...

<program name> has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc etc....

That makes running many of the required routines difficult unless I can first figure out what's causing the errors and non-installation.

    Any suggestions?

    Best Regards
    DFly

The below items from the READ & RUN ME do not require an installation:

    GetRunKey
    ShowNew
HijackThis - you copy is 2 years out of date.

Maybe the below will help get you on you feet a little!

Start by downloading - Pocket KillBox

Extract it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
Now back on Killbox's main window, Paste the below filenames into KILL BOX one at a time. Check mark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot. Note some of the files listed below may not exist but we need to check for them anyway.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.exe
    C:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe

If Killbox does not reboot or if you get a Pending Operations type error message just click OK to continue and then just reboot your PC yourself.

Now complete ALL of the READ & RUN ME (if possible) so we can finish your cleanup

Thanks! Will try the suggestions and advise how it goes.

    Back again...attachments Part 1

Have managed to run Killbox and the attached logs from the list of things to do. Unfortunately couldn't install some of the other programs hence no reports. Hope this helps anyway and appreciate any assistance.

Please follow the directions given in the READ ME. You did not install and rename HijackThis as was requested in step 7.

Did the below files actually get deleted? Double check? It looks to me like you did not delete them.

Why did you run Kaspersky? If you can run it, why can't you run Bitdefender and Panda?

You are running Ad-aware 6 Personal. Do you know that this has not been used in almost two years? The now have Ad-Aware SE
The same is tru of Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3. It is almost 2 years old.
Also you Sun Java version is way out of date.
No wonder you are having malware problems. You are not staying updated.

Goto Add/Remove programs and uninstall the below:
    Spy Sweeper
    Viewpoint Media Player

After you get HijackThis installed correctly, continue on to the below.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the READ ME).
Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.exe
    C:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stonedrv] c:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stonedrv] c:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stonedrv] c:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe
    O16 - DPF: {C886256C-7A63-4213-AD2F-02AD3735DF06} (AtlCtrl Class) - http://dl.adshooter.com/code/SYSsfitb.cab
    O16 - DPF: {CA034DCC-A580-4333-B52F-15F98C42E04C} (Downloader Class) - https://www.stopzilla.com/_download/Auto_Installer/dwnldr.cab
    O16 - DPF: {CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000} - https://the.ihug.co.nz/acnts/webredirect.pl
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.0_03) -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.exe
    c:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\tqi501.dll
    C:\58181d65-7785-413c-94e5-c725eaebbba8.cab
    C:\587fd7fa-0646-4de7-8027-6c53a11122ed.cab

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.
Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

You should post the follow up log that was requested so we can be sure. Also there is more for you to do when I'm sure you are clean.
