Help ,Plz

I had a Virus spreading all over my hard drives[still got it and working to remove it],but for the future how to stop this?
I`m using Win XP SP3 ,my main drive C: is Maxtor 200 Gb-Pata[the OS and all programs are on this one] and drive D: Seagate400Gb Sata-all downloads and other Crap goes there.I download several viruses on D: and one [????]escape and spread to the other drive.
Any help WILL BE APPRECIATED:!!!!!!!!!! :-o:confused

Avast! Free Edition
Comodo Firewall

the above tools are good all around even after you have nasties on your pc... also, look to go into safe mode to do your scans, any extra processes are not started enabling a clean break from things, ideally of course.

I got some of this programs,but My main question is how to stop the communication between the hard drives, and so, stop virus from going to My main drive?

throw it into safe mode and scan the whole computer... if you are really scared over it then look to do a full scan. Use the various tools mentioned and run them until nothing returns as a result. It takes time for the computer to do all this, be patient and have fun with your PS or something, maybe do something with Mom too? or for her? Late Mother's Day gift? anywho... scan things up, best in safe mode after all the updates for each on has been done while you are there in safe mode, first do a disk check, you could defragment (should take longer than normal too) a few times...
