alright well my computer hard wear is getting outdates and i notice lags and fps drops in some games.. especially newers ones.

Right now my system is stock:

    CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
    Ram: 512MB
    Videocard: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller (Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller)

im thinking of getting 1GB of ram to add to the 512mb and i need help determining a new video card.. i believe mine is AGP.

Since the harddrive i have now is only 80gb .. i plan to upgrade to around 300gb.. not sure if i want to get a new procesor what would you guys recomend?

Also wondering if im going to need anything else for my comp to work fine ie cooling , power with the new hardware

Frankly, get as much as you can afford in video card for gaming. Anything ATI or Nvidia will work, Intel is garbage. You will be really happy. I prefer Nvidia, better driver supoort and releases, etc, though ATI does make a fine card.

    Hi

Whats your motherboard make and version? you can use Everest Free to determine this as this will help with max CPU speed upgrade, but it maybe well worth if your upgrading to upgrade it all Motherboard, CPU, MEM and GFX to take in the newer Core2duos and PCI-E gfx cards... just a thought.

I would definatly upgrade to 1GB ram if not more.

Yes a x1950 AGP is better than a x1300 as the x1300 is a minimum, so if you dont go higher spec you will on release of newer games have to keep upgrading your GFX card.

If you are serious about a processor change, would you consider moving to a newer set up? Since your graphics are integrated, and you are limited to an AGP slot, you might want to build a system from scratch using the latest offerings from AMD or Intel. There are some really great Core 2 Duo chips out there that can be had for a really reasonable price. Match that with a motherboard with a PCI Express slot, and you expand your graphics card selection by a wide margin. DDR2 memory is dirt cheap these days and you can even find a pair of 1GB sticks (2GB total) for around $70 shipped. You would have an overall faster system and more upgrade options in the future.

my vote is to go dual core. I did and never looked back. And for the price AMD and Intel have some spectacular performance compared to the socket 478 netburst days.Just PM for some suggestions if you like.

well i got the cash to do this but right now i am not devoting it all to gaming because im not only saving it money for a car but also paintballin is very expensive.

would it be possible to buy 1 gig of ram to add to my current set up and then in the a month when i have more money to buy a motherboard/cpu combo and a video card to go with it and then use the 1.5gb of ram and put it to the new set up? or is ram not transferable like that.

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2400 MHz
    Motherboard Name Compaq Presario 6350CA
    Motherboard Chipset Intel Brookdale-G i845G
System Memory 512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)
    BIOS Type Compaq (09/24/02)

Most new platforms use DDR2 memory. If you move onto AMD's AM2 or Intel's Core 2 Duo, you will have to get DDR2 Memory. So memory from your old system will not be transferable. However, DDR2 memory is very inexpensive these days. Even cheaper than the older DDR memory. I have this memory in my computer right now and I have it overclocked to DDR2-800 Speeds. It would be a great addition to a Core 2 Duo chip and its only about $65 for 2GB! Instead of upgrading your current machine now, then building a new one later. I would wait until you have the money you need, and then build a new system. That way you have adequate time to research what you want and find the best prices.
