    Hi All

I got this laptop a couple of years ago. and ever since the day it came It has been one of those pigs in a POKE if you know what I mean For instance

Day 1. I started to put my stuff on but i messed up so rather than mess I thought I would do a full reinstall was I wrong it took 27 hours. I let it go as it seamed to work afterwards
A few months later = I had cause to do a rollback and that also took over 5 hours and at that time there was not that much on the laptop either Anyway I had always told Acer about all of this and asked about it on acer site but as there was no phisical damage or you could not see it was not working at all so it was not worth sending it back.
From then I seamed to have problems with the laptop. It was like you know one of those laptops that come off the line and is a right pain in the neck.
Anyway It started to develop a screen tear which I told Acer about and they said to keep a eye on it as it still had 4 months ot warranty left. But then the DVD drive failed so I returned it including all that was wrong with it . From the slow m/c to the tearing screen and the DVD drive. It was picked up and arrived back in under 4 days which I thought was good. Well till I took it out and switched it on. It was still slow It still had the screen tearing but the DVD drive was fixed. When I rang them to tell them I was not happy they said that they dont have long enough to run long tests like reinstall and rollbacks also the tearing was not showing up when it was tested so they just did the Drive. They said send it back there and then and they would look at the screen again But as it is intermittant I would leave it as long as I could but would send it before warranrt runs out. At which time the guy said well I have 3 months from the last repair. Anyway to cut a long story short I returned it with a month to go and it was within the 3 months but just a day or so in the mainwarrabty, But it did not come back like last time so after a week I rang then and they said they was waiting payment as it was out of warranty. I told them that it was a repair that should have been done 3 months ago and that it was still in warranty by 2 days when they got it plus a month of the repair after service. In the end they allowed it but still it was slow. But that was just my word I suppose. At least they did the screen tearing.

So we are here two years down the line and to me it is still slow it takes its time loading or running programmes it takes its time starting the fan is always on (has been for months and months) At startup now its sshowing 98-100% disk usage for many minuets after the main screen has come up some times over 10 minuets. Also when I have multi screens open in a browser say 18 plus It will hang the laptop up and I have to restart it. Other things are when I put the laptop into sleep mode about every 3rd or 4th time it will start with a black screen but nothing comes up so again I have to restart.

I have recently moved over to W10 and it seams to have eased the crashing but is still running warm possibly not as warm as it was but even though the fan slows down I can still hear it.

I think what I am looking for is any s/w diagnostics that I could d/l and run to give me any info about the system and what might be wrong. Or what should and should not be running at startup things like this.. The main thing is why should it take that length of time to do a rollback. Iv not done one since the one I did about 5 months after I bought it brcause I just dare not LOL.

I have got a couple such as Spywareblaster, Malewarebytes, CPUCool, HD tune, Intel Extra, PC Benchmark and Belarc Advisor.

From which I got the following :-

As you can see one hell a lot and im sure that this could be the reason for such a slow m/c? But I just dont know what should or should not be running. The worst part is I would love to buy a new laptop but im afraid with my modility issues and oveall health issues it just wont run to it. And due to the afore mensioned issues I cannot get about much to be able to do much more so the laptop is such that is like a lfeline. I know its needed doing but have put it off n off but I have been given a old Sony Vaio a due core so at least I have that while I try to get mine sssorted plus I have backed mine up now But im afraid that I may have also backed up the problems causing the slowness. So would be back to the start should I do a 27 hour reinstale LOl

Anyway Im sorry this is so long and looks so complex. But anything anyone can suggest that will either be for testing or diagnostics. Or anyt suggestion on a cure or what it might be will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Best regards Os

That i5-3317u is slower than you might have thought and you might check the performance specs before you buy another one: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-3317U+@+1.70GHz (You may need to check the actual model number in order to get the real CPU part number)
But; regardless, a factory recovery ought to take a maximum of about two hours (and I've done hundreds!) so I think you may have a bad hard disk drive.
Get the trial version of http://www.hdtune.com and run it. Check the health tab for (05) Reallocated sectors and (C5)Pending. If the entry in the data column of either is not zero, the drive has problems! If you want to be doubly sure, run the error scan and let it finish. Even one red box is a death bell or an area where it really slows down is a very bad sign.

    Hello Davismccarn

And thankyou for your reply. It was only last week I was made aware of HDTune I did all the tests and even the full error test which took about 3 hours if i remember correctly and it was all green. I thought from what I had read that it might be the hard drive with the symptons I was getting But HDTune says not..
I think the two mani things that I ought to try and sort out first before I go further is
    First -
The length of time it takes to start because it shows Disk access at 98-100% for the first 5-10 or more minuets when I first start.
    Second -
Which is possible to do with the first But there are so manyservices and s/w shown as running just after start up? Thats why I put a list of everything that is running after I have just started up as It seams a hell of a lot of programs to be running does it not.?
And finally which will possiblly help if the two above are sorted is the fan as its on 95% of the time. Like no for instance when the Disk is running at 5% the CPUat 11% Memory at 32% and Network at 6% But the fan is running at High at the moment?

    Thank you

    Regards Andy

In Windows 10 the TASK MANAGER > START-UP tells you what programs are listed, and which ones have 'enabled' under 'status'.
List those here, or take a single window screen shot of it (alt+prt scr) and post it here

Well you only have three start ups enabled, so that looks fine.
But what you do have - which is potentially a major cause of problems - is the installation of two different anti-virus programs: Avira and McAfee. You need to cleanly uninstall one of them urgently.
If you are happy with Avira, then uninstall McAfee but you must do it with the official uninstall program exactly as it explains when using it:

    Hi Max

Thank you for the help regarding the two anti virus running simutainiously. I think I may also remove all of Avira and do a complete reinstall. Even though every thing looks ok I did not want to risk a rollback. But as Iv not done one fot many months I think I will do a full back up and then try a roll back as it will be the first one under windows 10 also. So fingers crossed.
There was one other thing id like to try and find out and that is the actual graphics package I have on the laptop It says a Intel HD 4000 series Is that as close I am going to get to its spec. I have used "dxdiag" I just wondered if there was any other s/w to find out more about the intergrated card?

Thank you once again Regards Os
