    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You did not install the version of Spybot listed in the READ ME. You have Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2 running which is almost 4 years out of date and is just about useless in todays malware world. Uninstall this and then reboot. The follow the directions in the READ ME for installing, updating, and configuring the current version.

Now uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Also uninstall the Sunbelt CounterSpy trial since we are finished with it now!

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: COM+ Service - {2BDEC973-B5AC-4e5b-8AB3-5A0500880DA2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winload.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {49C00C9E-D54D-49A5-94B2-3B1E6B3A8DF0} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5ADF3862-9E2E-4ad3-86F7-4510E6550CD0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lbrdqbwk.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A61098D-612B-4EF2-943D-64E920684061} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [szarkrmf.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\szarkrmf.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe"
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: qomnkii - qomnkii.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    1) I downloaded, installed and ran SpyBot 1.4 (newer version).

    2) I uninstalled the programs listed.

    3) I ran HJT and fixed the selected entries.

    4) I created and ran fixeme.reg.

    5) **NOTE** During the re-boot after running avenger.exe, my computer froze up. Since I didn't know if the avenger had finished its job, I ran it again and successfully re-booted. It looks like the log file shows it not finding a lot of files. I assume that it actually worked the first time and the files are gone.

    6) I ran CCleaner.

I had a typo in my last fixME.reg patch and because of that one item did not get fixed. Please run the below.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Other than that, you are clean.

Also you forgot to tell me how things are working.

I finished up with your last instructions.

The computer is running much, much better. It starts up much faster and I've not had any pop-ups or virus software telling me there's a problem. The reason I didn't mention this before was that I wasn't sure if you had more steps for me to do or not.

I thought I would run one more scan and then re-boot and create a restore point like you suggested.

    Anything else I should do?

Thanks so much for your help.

I do have one question ... are all these steps supposed to produce a completely 'clean' computer ... or just get rid of most of the really dangerous stuff?

I ran another scan and a couple more items popped up in the SpyBot scan results.

After all the steps we've taken, are these just minor things that I don't need to worry about?

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    9. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

In reality there is no guarantee of any PC to be completely clean once it has been infected. The procedures we are following will help us to find and remove a large spectrum of possible problems, but they only find what they look for. We are not checking every single file or registry key on your PC (nor could we).

Don't know since you did not tell me what they were or where they were found.

I ran the scans again and SpyBot shows these entries:

    AdRevolver
    Advertising.com
    Avenue A, Inc.
    BlueStreak
    DoubleClick
    HitBox
    MediaPlex
    Statcounter

I've attached the scan logs. Do I need to do anything else?

In message # 9 I gave you a list of things to do and also gave you this link How to Protect yourself from malware! Did you READ and do all the steps in the link? See step 11 in that link again which discusses cookies.

If you have completed all of the instructions in message # 9, you are finished.
