Hey, I'm new here, thanks for the help.
I just got a laptop, and being the dumbass that I am, used the net before I got antivirus software. I picked up a trojan... once I realized I have a virus, I turned off my computer and didn't turn it back on until my Norton Anti-Virus had arrived. I installed it and it removed/quarantined 12 problems. But heres were it gets weird. At least one virus is still active because my computer is displaying 4 problems:
    1. upon start up, it says "shell program failed to launch"
    2. The desktop background resolution is about 50%. only the background though. The icons, startbar and all windows are just fine.
    3. The internet is blocked. It says the internet is connected, but nothing will load. However this is a new, because When I installed Norton 2006, I was able to get live updates, but now can't do that or anything else.
    4. Upon shutting down, a 2 windows pop up and say "ssn6tuu stopped running because windows is shuttind down" and "ending program: ccApp"

None of this was happening before the trojan showed up. I found the ssn6tuu file in system32, but it won't let me delete it because it says it's always running. I've done some research on the internet but can't find anything that fits my problem.
    I have a HijackThis log:

Edit: removed inline HJT log for guise to be first run

I have run multiple scans with Norton Anti-Virus 2006 updated 6-17-06, and it doesn't want to pick anything up. Thats the jist of what I know. I'd appreciate any help I can get.
    Thanks.

    Hi and welcome

To get started, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    Bitdefender
    Panda Scan
    HijackThis

Sorry about that. Ok, tutorial followed:
Ccleaner ran fine- removed around 100mb of stuff.
Windows MSRT- Ran full system scan, didn't find or remove anything.
Ad-Aware SE- ran fine, however I couldn't get updates because of the internet problem. It quarantined 18 objects, and removed 2 critical objects
Spybot- Told me I couldn't scan until I installed the "detection update." But again, I couldn't update because of the internet problem.

Next I couldn't run the bitdefender or Panda Scan because of the internet problem.

So, having that done, I rebooted into normal modes and all 4 problems were still present. My new(after running all the tutorial) HijackThis log is attached.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly aprecciated.

Please follow the directions in step 7 of the READ ME for installing and running HijackThis. You are using WinRar to run it directly from the ZIP file which is exactly what we specify not to do. You must fix this now before continuing or you will not get any backups for things we fix. If we make a mistake, you will be in trouble without backups.

You will have to download the below tools using another PC and try to get them to the infected one to run. Use a flashdrive, a CD, a floppy etc. Let me know if you can or cannot do this.

You have a bunch of different malware problems we need to fix. Apparently the Protector Suite Software stuff you have installed and Prevx do not work very well.. Let's start with the below procedure:

    SpywareQuake & SpyFalcon Removal Procedure

After running this, attach the smitfiles.txt log and continue on to the below.

    Download FindQool by LonnyRJones
    • Extract the files and place the FindQool folder into root folder of your hard disk. This is usually C:\
    • Open the folder and run Qlocate.bat
    • attach the contents of the txt.log which will open when the scan is finished. You will have to attach this to a second message because only 3 logs can be attached to a single message.
FindQool is not a removal procedure. It is a scan that helps us to locate hidden files and registry keys so we can work up a fix for the Qoologic infection.

You should also uninstall LimeWire because most version come bundled with malware.

Also look in Add/Remove programs for WebHancer and Yazzle or Yazzle Sudo Ku (or similar) and uninstall if found.

If you could not complete ALL of my steps in my previous message, then start doing the below anyway. This should help us improve your situation. You are really loaded with bad stuff.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to Windows Overlay Components ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    Windows Overlay Components

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\atmclk.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\sys02330992995.exe
    C:\DOCUME~1\ngregory\APPLIC~1\DOBE~1\UERINI~1.EXE

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I'm confused, you said there will be four attachments, but I can only find three. which one did I miss?
Anyway everything in the SpywareQuake & SpyFalcon removal thread seemed to run fine. I didn't find any matching file names from the list, I did however find 5 or 6 that were very close (ex: stdole2 instead of stdole3) If you would like me to list these, I can.
I found and deleted both C:\WINDOWS\sys02330992995.exe and C:\DOCUME~1\ngregory\APPLIC~1\DOBE~1\UERINI~1.EXE
I killed everything you listed in HighJackThis
Then in the next step, I found a few of the listed files and deleted the ones I could, but wowexec.dll won't let me. It says access is denied, and the security settings are locked for all users.

After rebooting, the "shell program failed to launch" message is gone,
the internet is still down and the background is still screwy.
After shutting down, the "ccApp: ending now" is still there but the other message is gone.
Also, I don't know if I missed it before or if its new, but in the Program Files there is a file called Cowabanga. I've tried deleting it multiple times but it just returns.

Actually with a HijackThis log it would be four logs. You never completed step 6 of the READ & RUN ME as requested but I'm not sure if your original problem was still blocking internet access.

NO! Never delete anything unless we tell you to. There are many valid files (like the ones you just mentioned) that spyware attempts to look like so they can hide from you.

Did you get an error message when HijackThis tried to fix that O20 line?

Let's continue by seeing if we can get internet access back!

    Now download LSP - Fix

    Run LSP-Fix.

Check the Box labeled "I know what I'm doing" and then click on the webhdll.dll file (in the “Keep” section) to select it.

Then, Select the >> button to move webhdll.dll into the Remove section.

Now, click the Finish Button. When the Repair Summary box appears, click OK.
If it is already in the Remove section, just click Finish.

Now tell me if you have internet access!

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Use HijackThis to fix the below lines (tell me if you get an error message - but if you do just ignore it and immediately reboot):

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = prosearching.com
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: wowexec.dll

Then exit HJT and reboot into safe mode. Look for c:\windows\system32\wowexec.dll and see if you can delete it. If not, try renaming it to wowexec.ddd

Also look for C:\WINDOWS\ELNNCE.DAT and delete it if found.

Also delete COWABANGA.EXE if you still have it.

Then reboot to normal mode and attach a new HJT log.

Let me know what happens while doing the above.

    DId you purchase Prevx?

Sorry, when I said delete I ment fix
Yes, I got an error message for the line 020.
I ran LSP fix and changed what you said.
I ran the fixme.reg, and found and fixed the RO in HJT and the 020 gave me an error message again.
After rebooting in safe mode, I renamed the wowexec.dll to .DDD and deleted it and also found and deleted the other two items.
After rebooting in normal mode my internet was working and the background was fixed. :D  I'm pretty sure your a genius.
Anyway, since I got the internet back, I went back to the READ ME FIRST and updated and ran all those programs again. Spybot found around a dozen different things.
Also, the PrevX wasn't activated because I didn't have internet, but once activated it found 77 dangers and quarintined them.

Are you sure you have been fixing the below line and are ALL browsers closed when you click fix?

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = prosearching.com

Try fixing it again but make sure any real time protection (like Prevx or anything else you run for protection) is shut down first, and make sure NO browsers are open when you click Fix checked. Did it go away?
